suitable graphics card? bryce27-Sep-05 15:31 bryce 27-Sep-05 15:31  Lo all like a lot of coder nerdies i'm pretty vacant when it comes to hardware. Ive got a asus a7s8x-mx motherboard (running sempron 2800 CPU) which takes a 8x AGP card the manual says its got to be a 1.5 Volt card and to only install a 1.5 volt card... Recheck your specs, most 8x cards will run 4x as well but some motherboards that are 8x (.8v) will not run 4x mode. I looked at the sapphire 9600-xt and it seems nice...do you have a motherboard in mind you reckon would go well? Depsite my continued posts on Netgear's site, and unanswered calls to their Tech Support, I thought I would post my woes here, in hopes someone might have a suggestion for me that I've yet to try (other than purchase a LinkSys router - which is what I should have done from the get go). Here's the problem: Anytime any computer connected to the router via wireless, attempts to copy a large number of files (to a Local share on the main PC to which the router is directly connected), the wireless on the router just dies. All the hard wired computers plugged directly into the router still have a connection, it's just the wireless that essentially "turns off". The only solution is to unplug the router and plug it back in, thereby "restarting" the router. What I've tired (settings) Originally I had the router set to Chanl. 11 with 64-bit WEP enabled. After a post to the Netgear fourms with this problem, their tech support suggested I switch to Chanl 1 and disable WEP. Well, since I'm not about to run a wireless router without security, I changed to Chanl 1 and switched over to WPA encryption - still the same problem. I can copy "smaller" files back-and-forth all day long, but if I attempt to copy a large number of files (e.g., 5+ gigs) - it will kill the wireless connection almost every single time. Suggestions? The router, however, never locks up -- I have been trying to establish if it is db strength or external influence or something internal. When transferring large files communication will be lost in the middle, unknown reason, but there is no need to reset the router, all physical functionality is maintained following the interrupt. I can start again easily within about 10 seconds without reset. However, it still kills the copy. I'll have to check here for answers in case they are related. Or we both toss our Netgear systems and go linksys. If the unit is still under warrenty coverage I would hassle them about it, you paid for it, a locked up router should be their fault. I am no networking genius... but I would think that mine "could be" interferance, the router stays working, all the hardware is working after the "cut off". Interference from another device should interrupt the signal, but leave the hardware functioning, just like mine. After several hours use, and copying large numbers of files back<->forth from my server to various PCs (wired and wireless) not a single glitch. The machine I do the longest copies from is my DVR on a wifi ethernet bridge... so I am picking up a pair of electric outlet bridges to see if I can manage 1/3 megabit through the walls... they claim it will do 11 megabit, most reviews say 6 realistically, that's all still more than I need. and surprise... LinkSys, bypass the wifi for anything other than handheld and work laptops which so far have not been a problem.
