I'm trying to talk to an ACR30 USB smartcard reader via the PC/SC Microsoft Winsmcrd.dll api. The smartcard manufacturer is ACS and they're good for obtaining API manuals etc but the examples provided just won't work. The smartcard model I'm using is a AT24C16, which is listed amongst the compatible cards. This card is a memory card and PC/SC doesn't allow for memory card writing, but ACS have provided methods to do this and written a manual specifically for PC/SC memory card access. for example, the following copied code (except for reader name) returns error code 0x80100066 "The smart card is not responding to a reset" ie no response from the card rv = SCardConnect( hContext, "ACS USB 0", SCARD_SHARE_EXCLUSIVE, SCARD_PROTOCOL_RAW, &hCard, &dwActiveProtocol); if I change the call to the following, I receive a successful response rv = SCardConnect( hContext, "ACS USB 0", SCARD_SHARE_DIRECT, SCARD_PROTOCOL_UNDEFINED, &hCard, &dwActiveProtocol); but because I'm using the different defines I don't know what sort of knock on effect this is having on the remaining api functions I call. Pretty well all of them aren't working as I'd expect. I think this is a common model for smartcard developers, so I was wondering if there's anyone else out there who has worked successfully with this unit and who could give me some guidance. many thanks Re: ACR30 Smartcard writer. If you're building a lowend system that you're sure will never be upgraded it doesn't matter much, but for anything where gfx performance does matter if you go with agp now, you'll need a mobo upgrade if you need to upgrade your gfx card as well. There're a handful of boards that support both interfaces but they all did it by kluging an emulation of one of them, with inherently pitiful performance as a result. Being educated as a technical embedded systems programmer, I thought that it would be nice to build some hardware myself. After some thought, I chose a robot as my first undertaking to get into this. Right after I decided this, I found my first problem: where am I going to get all the hardware? Since there are is a lot of crap out there, I must carefully choose my tools. Some of the things I need are: <list> Microcontroller with C++ compiler Servos Pneumatic or Hydraulic cilinders etc.. The PIC's and Motorola HCxx will have the cheapest test/eval boards for development and open source or inexpensive compilers. If your looking for more brute force, you can always get student discounts. I.e. ARM risc processor compilers are around $500 for student discount. -good luck Re: l Robot? No mouse motion, no button response. LED still shining. I've found that unplugging it and replugging it (it is USB) will temporarily fix the problem. It may fix it for 5 minutes to 4 hours. I've trimmed all unnecessary tasks in Task Manager, looked into 'Run' in Regedit and cleaned that up a bit, but nothing looked wrong, and cleaned the dust-bunnies out from in front of the LED. The problem even recurred when I had the mouse plugged into another USB port after doing all that. What else, or does it sound like the mouse is ready to die? But actully in VC++ this dont happen pls try the example , and let me know that if am missing to set any compiler flag . In VC++ __forceinline is used to force inline function by passing the cost/benefit analysis .I have tried that also but it dont work . To test the code just go to the disassembly and if u find any assembly instruction as "call" then the inline mechanism is not implement by ur vc compiler .
