Visual C++ does not do cross-compiling.... (at least for Palm -- a competing environment) You can find the development suites for various cross-compilers and embedded development, but not for Visual C++.

PRC-Tools is GCC based, but for windows also. Codewarrior is the standard for Palm development.

When using GetFieldValue to get a CString value in UNICODE the CString size is twice the length of the string because the CRecordset uses SqlGetData odbc api that returns the number of bytes copied to buffer and not the number of WCHARs. So when CRecordset issue a CString::ReleaseBuffer(SqlGetDataLen); the CString becomes with twice the size of the real data. Making use of CString += results in bad strings ...
PS.: This problem exists in MFC 7.1 and 8.0
My way to resolve this is calling CString::ReleaseBuffer(-1); again after call GetFieldValue.
There is a Microsoft fix for that ?

here I put some code to interrogate each word of the line, my intention is to print each word in the line, but I only get the first word of the line. I do not know what wroght with my code.
//
string line,word;
f_ptr1.getline(buffer_seed,58,' ');
line = string(buffer_seed);
istringstream stream (line);
while(stream >> word) {
cout << word.c_str(); }
For example, I should have pring every word of the line: "Eventyy Type : Full Waveform",
but I only print "Eventyy.

read by: f_ptr1.getline(buffer_seed,60,' ')

Are you sure? The getline() call specifies a space as the delimeter.
So have you verified that line also contains the correct value?

With the folowing code I read a file and write it into another file with the same format.

Right, but it does so one "word" at a time. Is there a point to this exercise, or do you consider that to be a satisfactory way of copying a file?

In fact, my purpose is to read the file line by line. The head of the file contains 33 lines of text. I like to interrogate this text to record some key information. Then the file contains three collumns of numerical data. I like to store these three columns into three different arrays.
Then the array is treated ac a time seriers and FFT will be performed and a transfer function will be multipled to the arrays.
My first task is to transfer the data to correct arrays.
This is the code (you helped) I read a file (f_ptr1)and write to another file (f_ptr2):

write() can not handle char and I tested and got messy output.
qq.length() will be equal 60 (declared space)
getline seems read a line of information, because I write out a file exact the same as input file. However, the following code can only pring the first word of the line, not every word in the line. I do not understand.

Probably because only one word has been read from f_ptr1 into buffer_seed. You've instructed getline() to read up to the first space character.

I do not have space on my development machine, my project files are in 2000 server and VC++ 6.0 runs on the "client".
After adding new MFC class I deleted .clw file and tried to rebuild it.
I am getting an error that any of the project files cannot be accessed.
The error path looks like this “..\..\..server name\drive \.."
What’s with the "..\.." before the server name??
I can compile, debug and save the original project without any problems.
What am I missing?

I have declare an array of characters like this :

But , i want to declare a bigger capacity of this array .

It'll be governed by the size of the stack, which I think defaults to 1MB.

I suggest using vector or, if in MFC, CArray. Both use the heap, instead of stack, and maintain the count.
Option 2 is to simply use:
char* pStr = new char[255];
But make sure you delete it when you got out of scope (or use a smart pointer class.)

this is certainly a stupid question for the ones of you who know the answer, but the fact is that i never went into multi-projects workspaces (under VC++ 6) / solutions (under VC++ .NET 2003).
there are 2 main cases where i want to do so :
1) one project is the main application UI, the other ones would be DLL project (needed by the GUI)
2) One project is the application, the other project would be a unit test project.
i don't know how to proceed neither one nor other case.
my simple question is : how are set/used the dependencies (say, for VS2003), so that i don't have to copy the classes files (headers && implementations) from one project to the others ?

how do you design a solution which has several projects in it, where one need to use some classes defined in another project of the solution (without copying the files between the projects folder ; only by dependencies) ??

I am not sure if this is the answer. Try to use 'reference'. In vs2003, use
Project/Properties, then at 'References' in "Common Properties", using "Add new reference" also set the path to the other projects. In the new window, select the correponding project you need, then it is done.
