No, it's just what I've heard many times from folks who are in a gym. I've never joined because I've never seen the need - the weather here is good enough for outdoor exercising year-round.

I can confirm this. Most of them leave after 1-3 months.

Indeed. I always refer to it at the "Resolutionary War", which peters out by late February.
Of course, there's always another brief upswing in April, when the swimsuits appear in the stores .
