I have data in a table that I would like to display in a radioButtonList, inside a dataGrid. The fields are such: QuestionID, Question, Option_1, Option_2, Option_3, etc. All these options are different potential answers that the user can select by means of a radio button. I need the values from these Option fields to populate the radioButtonList List Collection. (These options are different for every row). Is there a way to do this?

Can you help me understand, a bit more, I bulid lots of questionnaires that's all I do is bulid data collection forms, not understanding why you are loading your radio buttons in data grid?
Why don't you just put it all on the form, make the radio buttons post back, and on post back make visible what needs to be visible depending on the answer that was given with a switch?

Just so I can pull all the Question IDs, the Questions, and their optional answers from the database, in one simple select statement (if possible). If I used a form, you are saying populate a table with this information using a for-loop or something? I would still like to be able to use a RadioButtonlist that would automatically pull the choices from the database, instead of having to type them in, just in case there are changes to be made, so they don't have to be made in 2 spots.

You could still pull them all in, all the forms I do this On I can't post on here until I can spend some time deleting stuff out of them, got stuff I am not allowed to post because of were I work. I load everything into the page, and set it visible, on post back user answers the question for this on postback, sets the next correct option visible. Now what would suck is if they changed your varibles names..

I do not understand. How do you load everything onto the page after pulling from the DB? Are you also filling the RadioButtonList with info from the database? or are you typing this information in?

Hi, (I am a newbie to ASP.NET)...

I create an ASP.NET project in VS2005 and it gives an "object not found" or "cannot create object" error in the first line (no matter what the first line is!!)
I just create the webproject from its template and it gives this error!
Hint:
I am using Windows XP SP2 Home Edition (but I have installed IIS on it anyway), does this have anything related to my problem?

You usually get that error when you have an object that is null and you are treating it like it is not null.

I would suggest pressing F10 to step into your app. This should take you to the first line of the code. Keep pressing F10 until you find the object that is not set. Once you have found the object hopefully you will know what to do. If not respond back with what you find.

Is there anyway to create a directory listing, of the files in a folder? IE, on page show all contents of said folder all read only? In otherwords so it looks the user has FTP access, but through the web?

Yes use Style Sheet for that

Causing validation on postback

Ok so I have a form

within the form I have two buttons Amend / submit

<asp:button id="btnAmend" onclick="btnAmend_Click" runat="server" width="192px" visible="False"
text="Amend">

<asp:button id="btnPost" onclick="btnPost_Click" runat="server" width="192px" text="Submit">

both have the caues validation attribute set to true but only the submit button actually causes validation when pressed. Is this because the submit button is called post?

any way to also get the amend button to cause validation also

Also why have to buttons? Ammend and submit? Why arent you just calling the other function, if critera for submit is already met? I am assuming, your UPDATEING a record with your ammend button, versus your SUBMIT button, is being used for the first time the data is being submited?

yea that's correct I have two buttons amend and submit. submit for the first time I submit at this stage the amend button is not shown, then when amending I show the amend button and hide the submit button, is this logic flawed?

Yes, you do not need two buttons. You should check if the record is a new record within the same function of your submit button, if it is use your select statement, else use your UPDATE statement.

If you look down in my catch, if there is an error (IE cant do it because it would create a duplicate record), then it supposed to give my an error message, what I did was throw in my update command there, so after it tried select statement if it couldnt do that it would try my update statment.
