Actually you shouldn't do this, because some of the MBR viruses actually encrypt the hard disk contents and wiping the MBR also overwrites the decryption key.
That said, most of these aren't compatible with Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista because the decryption is done through the 16-bit BIOS interrupt handlers and the 32-bit device drivers won't chain through the code installed by the MBR.
And of course if you are using XP, you should boot from the setup CD, go into the recovery console, and run fixmbr, because the Windows 9x/DOS MBR doesn't know how to boot Windows.

actually this what our problem statement is
it states that: write a program to manipulate as to count number of instruction executed by the processor. you can show any instruction mix executed. count the exact no of distinct instructions, in the total mix executed in 1sec.

Hello. Try QBasic programming; get the program and install on your pc. It is purely MSDOS and will be of great help. You can write algorithms to check on the processes in the cpu. All the best!

Well, for features i have mentioned how files and folders can be viewed as thumbnails, icons etc. Another feature i have mentioned is the shortcuts, that when u click on a file, in the left hand column, XP have included links like 'cut' 'publish to web' etc. There are features. But what are the functions, is that what XP can perform, like system restore?

Microsoft Windows like so many other products blurs the distinction between feature and function. But generally speaking, a feature is a "selling point" and a function is "what it does in a non-specific way", which in itself could be a feature.
Regarding System Restore, this is no doubt a function of the operating system, however, in the hands of marketing people, it becomes a feature as the ability to restore the computer to another time becomes a selling point.

When I click on the User folder,
Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
Local Settings is not visible, I dont see an area to show hidden folders. XP Home.
Found it by Search to include Hidden Folders and Files, how do we unhide them please.
EDIT
Control Panel, Appearance & Themes, Folder Options, View TAB, then in Advance Settings Block choose Show hidden files and folders Option Button, click Apply and OK, DONE.

Darn those hidden files, how can I burn a CD if the files are hidden, the last paragraph of my post described how to make them un-hidden, they are not hidding now, I found them.
If the files and folders can be hidden by reversing the un-hide process, the folders show up as a lighter icon, not as bright as folders that do not formally get hidden.

One of the difference between XP Home and XP Pro is that XP Pro supports up to two microprocessors, while XP Home supports only one. While that refers to physical CPUs, does it also apply to the new dual-core CPUs? In other words, would XP Home not be able to use one of the cores?

I'm not positive, but I believe that it won't be able to take advantge of the "second" processor. Unless someone else is able to give you a definitive answer, the best way to find out will be to install it and see what happens.
