Hi.
I have created a dll in VC++ 08 that exports a CLR windows form class. I call into this dll from an external (closed source, third-party) application to instantiate the form and embed it into the external application window using SetParent(). The problem is, the form runs in the external application window, but the external application no longer updates (renders, responds to close button click, etc.).
Now I know the reason is that in order to keep the CLR form displayed, I had to use Application::Run(gcnew MyForm())--a selfish method that causes the form application to loop forever, not giving the external application a chance to process. How do I let the two windows be friends and share processing time?
I'm a 'n00b' at most of this, so please n00bify the answer for me. I won't be offended if you explain it to me as if I were a 2-year-old, handicapped child. (Please do!) I'm thinking the obvious answer may be the use of threads, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around the concept of threads (if that is even the answer). If there is a way to use Application::Run() and/or a custom form update loop, please enlighten me to one or both paths. (Code is greatly appreciated, of course.) Thanks!

I have a Main application form which has an MDI form. This MDI form has a control. When the control is larger than the MDI form, scrollbars appear which is fine. When i maximise the MDI form, it is big enough to contain the entire control, hence scrollbars should not appear. But the scrollbar still remain in the same position but they are non-functional. When i resize the form it disappears. It seems to me that its a refresh problem. And it doesnt happen everytime, it happens once in a while.
Please suggest a solution.

You could try to invoke "Invalidate(true)" upon resize. I don't know if it works, but it should tell the control (and all children) to repaint itself.

I tried the above but Im afraid it doesn't work. The scrollbars still show up.

Not sure what you mean. If you are asking about a client/server model then the most prevalent solution today is probably Web Services.

Requirements - I am writing a c#.net application that needs to desplay banners in parts of the screen.
That is the basic idea.
It's hard for me to say what the technical requirement is.
If I attach to a web service from a desktop application what technology would I use to display a banner?

You can retrieve your banner from a database and load images into your resources and choose which ones to display and when, I don't see why this would be more complicated then a picturebox that loads images dynamically.

Displaying a banner depends on the definition of "banner". For example if it's a bitmap image then just drawing it or using a control like a PictureBox will work.

The truth is that you guys are right....
The basic idea should be to connect to a web service that shoves either pictures\animated gifs or flash clips to play at certain intervals and the application presents the data...
Pictures and animated gifs should be no problem... what about more complicated banners (flash clips) - how are those "normally" played in c# .net applications.

Handle the keypress event, check the incoming character, and cancel the event if does not meet the requirements by setting Handled = true

Hello
I want to download one folder containing files from remote server to local computer. i am using vb.net. how should i do it? i have two possible ideas
1. Make zip file, down load to local machine and unzip
2. download files one by one using binary stream.
which one is perfect. if there is any other way?

System.Net provides you support for this.
Basically, you have to create an instance of WebClient, and call DownloadFile() method, or OpenRead() to get a stream:

i have already written code both for making zip file and download the file from server. i tried to make zip file on server based on my code but couldnt succeed. i think it is because of permision problems on server. it making zip file on local machine easily. any help to make zip file on server.

i have to access the Logininformation class in many other forms.
How could this be done ?
I know that global Vars are not allowed in C#, but how can i get this problem done ?

There are many ways to do it. You could persist the information, such in a database. You could also pass the information between forms (least favorable), or have a singleton object that is shared between the forms.

You can simply define the class as static. For example:

I am in the middle of building an application in Visual studio 2005. For some reason I spend all my time going back to each form and having to resize and reformat. I dont know why. I have all forms Locked and controls Locked, but it does not matter it has a mind of its own. Is there a solution that I can do to fix this issue. I am a beginner but a little farther along.
