Hi all,
In a ASP.NET website, I have used Login View to show the Login Status. For Login I have used Login Control.
It is showing status correctly. But after few idle minutes, it is automatically login view text changing to "login"
But user is already logged in. I think this is Session problem. I have used below line earlier. I commented it now.
Still same problem.
<sessionState mode="InProc" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;Trusted_Connection=yes" cookieless="UseCookies" timeout="1400" />

Hi,
Just a small code to check whether cookies are getting stored/retrived or not.
Check the code below:
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Cookies["userName"].Value = "patrick";
}
protected void Button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Request.Cookies["userName"] == null)
Label1.Text = "Cookie not found";
else
Label1.Text=Server.HtmlEncode(Request.Cookies["userName"].Value);
}

When I try to retrieve the cookie values on button2_click, it is not retrieved although I have set the option "accept all cookies" in IE 6.
Where is issue?

Is this happening between postbacks.
I think it should work if you are not working cookieless.
I checked and found working. 
Also check whether you have re initialized the value on page_load section.

I have not written anything in page_load.
Just this small code.
Moreover, when i try to see cookies folder, no such cookie is there.
I am running this web page on my machine only i.e. no webserver, just a local host.

The above code is working now.
IF i write the below:
Response.Cookies["userName"].Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1);
There could be any value of expiry.
Why is it mandatory? I mean if we donot set it, does it mean it will not create at all.
Moreover, without seeing the code, how to verify the expiry time of a cookie?

Multiple instances of the browser is sharing the same session state. how to make use of different session for different instance of browser?
we are storing the session in DataBase.

Well... what you can do is create a session yourself in the database based on the IP of the machine and assign each session state to the same IP.
If you map using IP, it will be easier to handle this.

Hi all,
In a registration page there is a dropdown list in which city name is comming form table if a paritcular city is not show in the dropdown then user select other option and when user select other then I want open a citymaster page in which option to add new city.
I have written a javescript fuction and calling it but it is open in new window

tell me or hint me how to open page in the same window

The function is CALLED window.open, what did you expect ? Why do you need a method instead of just using a link ? Oh, because it's in response to a dropdown. Use window.location.

I think it is not available in most of the browsers ... It is IE specific. Not in w3 standard function list.

Rather than using Window.open navigate to the page. Use
function showAddCityForm()

Dear all,
I want to access user name from the url written like this format
http://www.codeproject.com/username1
user will enter his user name after website name. Remember that user will not enter user name as a query string like
http://www.codeproject.com/username?username1 (I don't want this type of entry with url by user)
when i am using this (http://www.codeproject.com/username1) type of url I have tryed to access user name from global.aspx -Application_BeginRequest event. i have searched that after the website name if the string (here username1) is not with . (i am not permitting to use . while user name created) it will redirect to download page with query string.
like this:

string theFileName = theurl.Substring(theurl.LastIndexOf("/") + 1);

It is working properly on the local server. but on the server it redirect to 404 (page not found) page. not running the Application_BeginRequest event.
Than what is the best way to achive this.

Sounds like your server is not configured properly or doesn't have all your code uploaded to it. Are you sure download.aspx is present ? What if you type in the new URL directly ?

download.aspx is present on the server. and it is opening properly when typeing the url manually on ther browser.
But it may be server is not configured properly. On the control panel of this website a error 404 (page not found) is set to a html page by the hosting provider (godaddy.com). And that page is showing while i am trying that code.
There are other options of 404 Error Behavior are:
Use home page:
Use custom page:
If i set a custome page to a aspx page. I think it will open but where i wil loose the username (here username1).
so how to solve this?

item template check box header check box shuld get uncheckd for this i m calling javascript on onclick event of check box but id of header check box is coming null. for this i m using

Fix your post so we can see the script. Use the 'do not interpret HTML tags' checkbox.
