you obviously lack the Fingerspitzengefühl it takes to set the control right.

Basically the problem is the control system: rather than setting power and duration in advance (and hope for the best), they should use a sensor and a feedback control system. However that would make the equipment slightly more expensive, and offer more customer satisfaction, two characteristics that work against the business proper.

1. Turn on the broiler
2. Butter the bread
3. Place bread slices on ungreased cookie sheet
4. Place in oven on top shelf
5. Count to 20 (1-hippopotamus, 2-hippopotamus...)

That'd work, although I'd count them from a distance. We have alligators in my part of the world - not the friendliest creatures I've ever seen. Although they're great for sausage.

this is my code

but give me this error "IErrorInfo.GetDescription failed with E_FAIL(0x80004005)"

this work when I remove "StudentClass.Position=1" from where clause. And I use MS access 2003 database.

Please don't use spaces in your fieldnames. You might find it more readable, but the computer will be reading it more often than you will. Once the spaces are gone, you can drop the brackets around those names, which could simplify the statement a lot;

According to Google, this could be caused by having a reserved keyword as a fieldname. You'll need a new naming-convention Smile | :)

Hello Everybody!

I've been puzzling all day over how I would go about giving a custom application icon to a VB.NET executable compiled from VB.NET 2010 code using the VBCodeProvider class.

My application compiles VB.NET source code into a .NET executable like this:

Dim MyCodeProvider As New VBCodeProvider
Dim MyCompilerOptions As New CompilerParameters
MyCompilerOptions.GenerateExecutable = True

MyCodeProvider.CompileAssemblyFromSource(MyCompilerOptions, MySourceCode)

That's working great, but I can't find a way to assign custom application icons to the generated executables. I've tried using a ResourceWriter to create a resources file with the icon in it and embedding that in the executable like so:

Dim MyResourceWriter As New ResourceWriter("C:\AppResources.resources")
MyResourceWriter.AddResource("APPICON", New Drawing.Icon("C:\AppIcon.ico"))
MyResourceWriter.Generate()
MyResourceWriter.Close()

MyCompilerOptions.EmbeddedResources.Add("C:\AppResources.resources")

However, though the generated executable increases in size (which leads me to think that the icon data is in there somewhere), the icon still doesn't show up as the application icon in Windows Explorer.

I'm a real novice at using resource files, and I just can't get it to work. Can anybody see what I'm doing wrong?

Hi I have a VB6 system that updates Word 2000 documents held in RTF format with case specific information at points indicated in the document such as [0123] meaning replace these 6 characters with the 123rd element of case specific information. I am now in the process of upgrading this to Word 2007 and Open XML. The reason for moving to open XML is that it seems that Microsoft will not be continuing its support of RTF.
My problems are as follows:
1. When I insert case specific information I need to make it a specific colour. This works okay with Word 2000 and RTF because I just surround it with {\cf5 and }. What do I do with Open XML?
2. I have specific inserts for Returns, Tabs, Centres, Italics and Bold that in Word 2000 and RTF can be achieved by \par, \tab, {\qc, {\i and {\b with those starting with { being ended with }. What do I do in Word 2007 and Open XML?
3. I need to find the MS section breaks which are \sect in Word 2000 and RTF. What are they in Word 2007 and Open XML?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

It won't be as simple as asking "what tag is replacing this one". RTF is a single file, OpenXML is a bundle of files.

You could download the SDK[^] and work through the examples Smile | :)

You can do this by setting dataGridView1.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[colIndex].Style.WrapMode to true.

Finally is not executed always. As told by Sir Pete and PiebaldConsult. Go figure.

The current application can be retrieved using App.Path and App.ExeName properties. Forms are a different story, an example of looping through the available windows is available here[^].

You're going to have to explain further what you're trying to do. What do you mean by "current application"? Are you talking about your application that is running? Are you talking about the application window (doesn't matter what application) that has the focus?

Thank you. Yes, i talk about the application window that has focus, not just my application. I can get the caption of any window that has focus, but i don't know how to get the filename.

Unless you are REALLY familiar with Win32 and how process, modules, handles, ... work, you're going to find this very difficult to do. There are no built-in functions in VB6 that will do this for you and WMI will not help either.

Basically, once you get the window handle, you'd have to get the ThreadId that owns the window handle using the Win32 function GetWindowThreadProcessId. Once you've got the ProcessId, you can use it to get the process information. You can get the steps and functions required from this article[^], but all the code is in C++. You'll have to Google around for any examples of the functions use in VB6. I don't have any examples since I dropped all VB6 use almost 10 years ago.
