I was trying speed and not fully think through the answer, failed to be very fast and got 80 percent. I still can't believe I blew it on engine capacity.

I remember taking a class and I had complete contempt for it. It was required, I couldn't get out of it, and it wasn't teaching anything I didn't already know.

One test, I got an 80% because I'd missed a question. I couldn't see a single thing I had done wrong. I asked if someone had gotten that answer right. In the class of 30 one student had gotten it right. I asked to see it and we exactly matched, step by step. I agreed to not say anything if our answer turned out to be wrong, but when the teacher came in, he was really unhappy because in three classes and 90 students, one had gotten an 80% and no one else had gotten above 40%. When he got to my "wrong" answer, I made him change the score to 100%. Since I completely ignored what he said during class, I have no idea if they did so badly because they didn't do their homework or he couldn't teach.

I do have to admit that attitude was my downfall, because they finally got into subject matter I didn't know and I was so set in my ways, I totally blew that test.

Could have had none if I hadn't been in such a bleedin hurry to show y'all how good I am... Sigh | :sigh:

All in my head - the footsteps one nearly had me check the calculator - but 225 * 4 = 900 so it was a question of a stride being 0.4cm or 40cm... Big Grin | :-D

Mind you, I did cheat. After question 5 I got out a pencil and paper and stopped doing it in my head.

Is for me - when I left school and went to Uni, I didn't even own a calculator! (I did own two slide rules though, and I think I still have both of them) Laugh | :laugh:

Before being allowed to use one rotted my brain I was able to do problems like 98*76 or 9*876 in my head faster than anyone could tap the buttons on the idiot box and win about half the time with problems like 98*765 or 9*8765. If I wanted to show off I could do problems like 9876*54321 too but had no chance of beating a button masher.

My informal test for how clueful grade school teachers were was to see how long it took before they realized that if they were going to offer a prize for a basic in class math-game (generally flashcard speed) that unless they offered them for the top two spots they might as well just save some time and give it to me at the start of the day.

so you don't own a mobile phone - I haven't seen one, not even a dumb one that doesn't include a calculator - or a PC - Windows comes with one, every version of Linux I've seen also does, I suspect Macs do as well.

So I'll go with the poor option as well.

Being "Brighter than BoJo" is akin to being "Better looking than SuBo"^* - a feet most can attain and a point of embarrassment should you fail.
