I try.
I am the sort of chap who is happy to wander round town wearing a day cravat and tweeds.
Not only do I smoke a pipe from time to time, but I have a well stocked snuff box.
I was born out of time.

This is the guy. We used to have a teacher at primary school who was quite smitten by him I think. She read us stories of his exploits in anaconda infested South America which were pretty much all bs.

OMG
I am ex-Royal Horse Artillery, have travelled the world (including South America) and am now starting the first stages of what I want to be a particularly fine example of a handlebar moustache.
I had never heard of this man...yet he seems such a cool guy.

Yes he was from a now lost breed. His exploits although embellished or perhaps because kept us on the edge of our seats and away from schoolwork for many many afternoons. I still remember lots about them more than 50 years later.

Bit quiet around here today. I can only think that we've all started our holidays early!
Nevertheless, it's the weekend!
Happy weekend everyone!

Anyone here an armchair pilot?
I have Falcon 4.0[^] which I like, but it's old.
Can anyone recommend a decent game?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

I can pilot an armchair, but that's about it. I did take helicopter lessons, but decided that it was way too expensive a hobby for normal people to indulge...

Look here![^]
I have been working on the one in the middle this evening. Too bad that I will probably not get to fly too much in the next few months.

I had Faclon, never really cared for it. Would recommend MS Flight sim if it wasn't so buggy and laggy. XPlane, unf. isn't a game and is pure sim so is less fun for the casual player. I don't remember off the top of my head but there are some circa 90's flight sims that are all pretty fun.
|
|
|
|
|
Being a sometime XPlane-r I went looking a few weeks ago for it (I have 6.0 on CD) and the XPlane.org web site wasn't there is it still around?

Unfortunately, combat flight sims are a dying breed extinct. I was a huge fan of Falcon, the Janes series (F-15, F-18, Apache), etc...
The only decent one left is DCS[^].

I second Janes F-15. Old, but still really really fun. Great mission builder too.
