I have a 925 and love it. I wish it had more storage or an sd card slot, but i've never had a problem with lag or delays that couldnt be attributed to poor data connection where i was.

I had the Lumia 920. Loved it. Great performance, great screen, great camera. Then I dropped it on a rock and the screen broke.. Now I have the 1020, which is basically like the 920 but with an even better camera. The camera on the 1020 is *unbelievable*. Based on your needs it sounds like you would be very happy with the 920.

My wife has a 1520 and I have a 925 - wonderful products. COntrary to how I see most people using their smartphones, my wife and I primarily use them as phones (to talk to people - we let birds tweet or tootle or whatever) and the volume and quality is much better than average. As neither of us are obsessive phone app abusers, I have no issues around "not enough apps" - your mileage may vary depending on what you currently depend on. Neither of us have any regrets regarding the retirement of our HTC or iPhone.
Both have excellent life even with Netflix, Hulu and Pandora. All seem to last a "waking" day (7-12) and I have only once had to charge during the day as I normally charge the phone every night. Memory seems to be more than sufficient and Web browsing over WiFi is a dream, and over the AT&T network is acceptable (Thats the carriers fault not the phones).
I also got a 2520 pad with the phones and I have only 2 peeves with the 2520 - its 1080p (1920x1080) so even modern sites look crappy with a LOT of white space, and Nokia is VERY late with the keyboard/cover (i'm backordered) the ONLY thing preventing this pad from being the ultimate businessman's tool. I can use the full office apps but the popup keyboard is obtrusive. Because of the resolution, you'll need a stylus or thin fingers when in the "old" windows apps. Otherwise it is a solid windows product. My business partner keeps using my 2520 for demos rather than his iPad.
Nothing is impossible, we just don't know the way of it yet.

I've been using the Lumia 920 for a while. And I pretty much love it. It has everything you can ask from a smartphone. And once you get used to wireless charging, you'll never want to go back

I've used the Lumia 822 and now 928 on Verizon. Loved them both, really nothing to complain about on either. The new Lumia Icon on VZW is a very compelling offering; lack of Glance support being the only thing people are complaining about thus far.
All-in-all, I don't see a reason to buy any WP other than Nokia ones; they're the only OEM invested in the platform and constantly evolving it through 2nd party apps like Video Trimmer, Video Uploader, etc.

My wife and I love our 920s! My sister loves her 925! I love the tiles, even the best android/iPhones look very dated with the icons.
Pros: Colors for sure! Kids corner is awesome! Nokia Here, City Lens, Drive are all "killer" apps. Microsoft default apps (weather, calendar, messaging) make it needless to install a 3rd party. Fast and reliable. Of course, camera camera camera (was embarrassed for a iPhone 5c friend who was comparing photos with me...she just bought it and her low light photos were terrible!)
Cons: No swype keyboard (coming in phone 8.1). Xbox video was late, but finally here (have 50 movies on xbox/win8 video store.) Need no-password option for Kids corner. Apps aren't a problem, but it is a "badge of honor" for those with an android/iPhone when your phone doesn't have that *one* sandwich ordering app (lame but true.)
Fixes: Install the latest update! My phones used to "chime" in the middle of the night when they were finished charging on wireless charger. No more! Added a few awesome settings!

I've had a Nokia Lumia 521 for about 6 months. This is my first smartphone so I don't have a comparison but I do like it. I was going to get a 925, but the 521 costs about $100 currently (about 1/4 of a 925 or 928), so I got that as my 'starter' phone.

I bought a lumia 800 using windows 7 and when the 2yr contract runs out I cant wait to dump it as the problems are too many. I cant speak for the new models and w8 version but I just wont be giving it a chance. some of the faults are: the font is tiny and cant be enlarged so anyone 50+ yo will struggle to read text's unless you remember your glasses, and I always have to give it to someone and ask them what it says. you cant read the screen in the open air coz of the glare, the battery life is crap, you cant Bluetooth photos to m8's phones that aint lumias, I haven't found an easy way to forward a contact phone number as standard, I wont go on. I have used nokia since the early/mid 90's but wont do so again after my experience with this piece of shtye. no doubt theres downloads and fixes to most of the issues (except the font size) but I want a phone to work out of the box and not spend hours looking for apps that fix what the designers should have done in the first place or waiting for upgrades that never come - rant over & GL

Most of these are fixed in WP8 (which sadly requires you buy another handset - can't upgrade WP7 devices to WP8). Most of these are 'fixed out of the box', or at least have built in OS settings.
There is a font size setting which increases the text in a number of places, especially text messaging, though may not apply everywhere. There might also be some accessibility settings to help with this, I'm not sure. We have a nearly 60 year old director using a 1020 and he's fine with it, and another 50+ year old director using a 925 and he's fine too (those phones do have larger screens though).
Many/most of the newer Lumia phones are much easier to read in direct sunlight and have reduced glare, increased contrast etc. Possibly depends on the screen used in the hardware, but all the ones I've seen are pretty good.
Nokia have specifically included a contact sharing option in WP8 that works like their old one via SMS, or can use other sharing options (open the contact in people hub, then tap the app bar at the bottom of the screen to access that function). The newer phones support NFC and Bluetooth and I believe it is possible to share to other phones that aren't Lumia's, and even non-WP phones, though I haven't tried so I can't be sure. It might require a third party or downloaded Nokia app to this though.
The battery life isn't what it used to be on the old Nokias (i.e a 3355 used to get a week, with usage), but you can't expect it to be because of the new hardware and different usage patterns, and in my experience so far the battery life on the WP phones is the same or better than a lot of Android and iPhones. My wife's Samsung Galaxy SII has much worse battery than my phone (though it is an older model now). The S3/S4's also seem to need nightly charging, and most iPhone owners I know say the same.

Our whole company has 820's except for the directors who have 920's or higher, and I have a couple of friends with 520's. So far I haven't heard anyone complain about the 820's or higher models. The camera on the 520 is a bit slow according to my friend, but I haven't seen it to know if the 820 is different.
The 820 which I personally use is very good - but I find the storage space restricting (it has SD card but OS limits what you can put on it, grrr) and the battery isn't wonderful. That is to say I charge it nightly, but then it seems anyone with a modern smartphone who actually uses it does that anyway. Also the surface is the 820 is slipperier than snot on a door knob - it will slide frictionless across virtually any surface. That can make for interesting experiences if you drop it, slide it to someone or have it leap out from your car dashboard because it wasn't bolted down.
Overall, very good phone(s) though.

I'm surprised very few people recommend the 820, I own one and it's great, I have a few gripes with the Windows Phone OS, but overall it's very efficient; regarding the phone, it's very slippery on the default case, but if you can, try getting the rugged one (Nokia Protective or Active Shell CC-3040) or get at least a TPU protective case, the reason is that the LCD (or OLED screen to be precise) is very fragile, which is curious because the digitizer is damage resistant (not Gorilla Glass, but it resist pretty well).

Nokia Lumia 920. Very robust phone. I bought it just when the model was released. I have done soft reset couple times since then. Phone is very responsive and fast. Embedded Nokia navigation system that allows download all required maps locally and does not require cellular data to navigate. PureView camera cannot be compared to any phone cameras on the market. Good quality pictures. Plus XBox games, plus MS Office mobile, One Note.

I have a Lumia 900, overall its a decent phone. The camera is great at 8MP and a really useful feature for me is that it has a radio. There seems to be a bug, the screen goes black and i need to restart, it seems to happen very occasionally. not sure what the problem is. there is definately less apps available than in the android and ios stores.
I only paid approx 1/5 of the price of an iphone, so i do think it is better value. If I were to ignore price, i'd say an iphone is better, but adding price into my decision, I would say lumia.
I have not tried an android phone yet!
