I also watched that recently, and I'm disappointed too.

I'm not very happy with the alterations of the story or with the inclusion of so much content from the appendices, but the part that really annoys me is the over-the-top attempts to impress the viewer with "spectacular" combat scenes. It's especially jarring to see the elves surfing on their enemies (both the spiders and the orcs) and the dwarfs having perfect yet improvised teamwork while confined to barrels in a river. In moderation, such things would be OK, but this trilogy is really overdoing it.
What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.
