Mine will lock up on occasion (I think I know what is causing it but know of no cure) and what I have to do to get it running again is:

1) Move all projects from my android\workspace folder to some temporary location.
2) Delete the android\workspace\.metadata file.
3) Start Eclipse. This should be rather quick since no projects are having to be processed.
4) Once it settles down, close Eclipse normally.
5) Start Eclipse.
6) Click File --> Import, and select "Existing Android Code Into Workspace".
7) Browse to the temporary location from step 1.
8) Select projects to be imported, check "Copy projects into workspace" and click Finish.

This always works for me.
