Mrs mum asked to put on wintertires cause they said its goin to snow today, paniced she called me, picked me up after work.
It was raining buckets of water and kinda storming (our gardenfuniture made it's way to the neighbour). So me as clever as i am parked the car in the garage and did the magic while it was slightly getting darker. I barely could see after the first two tires were changed so i called my mother to hand me a flashlight. Finally changing the last tire i recognized it got very very low pressure in it. So rechanged the tire, loaded the empty one in the trunk, drove it to a friend who is mechanic and asked him if the tire is damaged, nothing was found so we filled it up and i drove it back home. I parked the car back in the garage and changed the tire, but nope this time after i unmounted the summertire my carlifter said f**k you and slowly went down. I had to grab the car and try my best to not letting it fall down on the left frontside, shouted at mother to pick up a tire and place it under the car so i could rearrange the carlifter without dropping the car.
I finally changed the tire and could mak my way to the next gas station to fill up the other tires as they were around 1,7 Bar pressure. The way was, cause we live in small village, quite stormy and rainy cause i drove on field paths. Rain running from left to right over the road, splashing down from above, no sight at all and suddenly some stupid tree threw one of his branches at me, gladly i could evade it but with those woobly tires and the s**t weather it was hell of a manouver. Finally at the gas station filling up tires and wettening i could drive home and instantly fall into bed without getting something to eat cause it was already 22:00.
This morning i checked the roads... no snow... but at least some of it tries to fall down leaving a 1cm thin layer on the car that is sufficient hard enough to provide the need of scratching it off.

Get one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Michelin-Hi-Power-Inflator-Detachable-Digital/dp/B000V5IG5U/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt[^] - empty to full in less than three minutes, I keep it in the car and check the tire pressures every week (low pressures can indicate a problem with a tire / wheel, as well as worsening fuel consumption and braking performance).
I got one because I found the garage insert-coin-and-run-round-quick pumps needed two coins to do all four tires, and it's saved me money by now!

I used to have those, but...
0) They take a lot of effort if the tire is very low (particularly on my previous Shogun, where the tires are enormous).
1) They don't inflate well from a "full flat" - not enough air flow unless you are a professional athlete.
2) They break: the pivot pin snapped on two of them for me and catapulted bits all over the shop.
3) The gauges aren't generally very accurate.
I also have a "proper" 65l compressor, but that means running mains out to the car and that's a PITA...

I have something along the lines of this: http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_293444_7.jpg[^]. It is heavy and takes up quite a bit of space, but that does not matter once you find yourself in a situation where you really need it.
I had battery problems for a while and have used it for starting my old car several times, but I have only had to use the air compressor once. It took forever to inflate a fully flat tire (probably partly due to air escaping  ), but it did work and that was running on the internal charge without having it plugged into a power source.

I tried on similar to that, but frankly it was pretty useless - the internal battery wasn't "man enough" to turn over the Shogun's engine, and the pump was OK for an air bed, but that was about it.
And the internal battery was always flat when I wanted it!

Yes, mine works just fine when it comes to jump starting my Ford Fusion (and my old Mazda 626 before that), but it is useless for starting my wife's SUV.
As far as the internal battery going flat, that definitely happens and it takes forever to charge it all the way up . I should probably buy a new, beefier one.

I'd probably buy a spare battery for the older of the two cars, and a trickle charger - that way you can use it as a "spare part" as well, and not pay extra for the plastic box it all comes in!

I hear you, but the trickle charger is really only good if the battery is flat while your car is in your garage and you have time to wait for it to charge.
My Mazda is no more. A few years ago an elderly woman ran a red light and spun me around. The Ford Fusion had corrosion on one of the battery clamps and stopped charging the battery. Cleaning that eventually fixed the problem, but the first time it happened I was running errands somewhere in Mexico, pulled the jumper thingy out of the trunk and got the car going almost right away.
However, that car was totaled earlier this year by an elephanting hit-and-run Porsche 911 driver  . I was pretty happy with my old Fusion, so I bought a newer version. It's an awesome car, but my commute to work is +50km each way 5 days a week, so I am already due for a second oil change.
BTW, I don't know which guy at Ford decided to put 240hp in my engine, but he deserves an MVP award

the pumps in Germany don't take money

Last time I had the mobile tyre fitter round, they used one of these and could work on both tyres on one side at the same time.
