TBH, I'm hoping it's a spoof, because it looks bloody boring.
"Run around and kill everyone" doesn't make for a fun gaming experience, but I'd guess that the makers haven't given much focus to anything else.
There must be a dozen ways to tweak it to make it fun -- e.g. you have to run around and kill selected individuals who have infiltrated towns, so it looks like you're on a rampage, and you have to run/hide from the cops -- but I doubt that the idea of actually doing anything interesting is involved in the game design.

I don't get the - apparently worldwide - passion for all things dark and deadly. Why the vampire movies and TV shows? Why the video games that feature guns and gore and scantily-clad beautiful-though-clearly-lacking-in-intelligence-and-taste females who are oddly attracted to everything contra-survival for their potential future offspring? Why are so many videos and TV shows featuring fictional creatures called "zombies?" Somebody remind me - how is this entertainment? And should I want people who find this entertaining as neighbors?
I grew up with guns, in a city, in California (now a Peoples' Republic uninhabitable by decent human beings), and I never dreamed of taking a gun to school. I also never spotted a zombie in the yard, or needed a cross (or Buffy) to keep vampires away from my bed. Of course, Buffy would have been welcome in my bed, but she would never have visited my town. In my high school, we had to get a permit from the American Kennel Association to hold a homecoming dance.
I grew up ordering volatile chemicals by mail order as a ten year old, since the 50 lb bags of potassium nitrate we had in the garage to feed the lawn weren't explosive enough to make really good fireworks and rocket engines. Nobody ever broke down my door in a flak jacket to find out why I needed it. I made a lot of explosives as a child, back when chemistry sets contained chemicals that were actually useful for something. I never took a bomb to school, nor did anyone else. We had a thing called "morals" back then, which we learned on our parents' knees, with the help of a belt or switch from a close by shrub or tree.
Where did you godless, violent, virulent subspecies of homosapiens called "kids" come from? Is it too late to ask you to go back? I blame video game programmers. They created this junk to compensate for their under-developed genitals which keep them from screwing the really hot chicks in daycare. They actually hate their lives, and want to ensure that everyone else has a really bad day, every day. They write violent games that artificially empower wimps who have no good reason to live or breed, by giving them the virtual power they could never hope to earn in a real world. This desensitizes them to human suffering and makes them unfeeling, robotic creatures devoted to making themselves feel adequate by hurting others who were really just standing around, minding their own business and hoping that Ed McMahon would arise from the grave to deliver a huge check from Publishers' Clearinghouse.
I call for a Jihad targeting video game developers, especially those who make more money and get more hot chicks than me. Who's with me???

I don't think it's an issue with the violence in the games, it's an issue with them destroying kids imaginations .
We used to imagine things,and knowing they were imaginary, treat them appropriately.
With video games (and screens in general) kids are not using their imagination, as it's thrown at 'em in technicolor gore-laden 3d
So pointing fingers and going 'pow - you're dead' just doesn't cut it compared with 1080p zombie head-exploding animation.

I agree with your argument about imagination, but in my childhood I also had a lot of free time.
Of course my parents guided me to some activities and if I didn't like it, I didn't have to do it.
I have noticed that kids these days have too many obligations or activities planned out for them by their parents, I understand keeping them busy is a good thing,
but not that busy that they don't get any time for themselves to you know go out and play with their peers or perhaps read a book, or just sit in the yard playing with a stick.
I mean playing is scheduled ahead by play dates or whatever it is called. And I understand that to a certain age, but once you are in school that should not be necessary. Parental supervision yes, but the kids can organize themselves and decide with whom to play etc.
I'm not saying that is the only problem but one of them. And you cannot blame game developers for parents not putting a context to video games their children play, a lot of parents
don't even take the time to research what they are buying. And then they say that games like GTA and other mindless shooters are not appropriate for kids - of course they aren't! That's
why the 18+ sticker is on the game itself.
I believe parents must also stop saying we used to... or in my day... and start trying to understand their kids. Not the only thing that must improve, but it would help a lot.
I know it helped me as my parents did talk to me a lot and asked me about things, then explained them from their perspective. Rarely they said it must be as I said and mostly just guided me and let me make my own mistakes - of course not always as some mistakes can be very costly.
I would also like to point out that parents are not the only problem here and I am not trying to blame them for everything just wrote what I noticed around me and how my parents dealt with me growing up. Of course every parent makes mistakes and we are all only human, but some parents neglect their kids too much.

I was talking to an education 'expert' a while ago who suggested that one thing kids miss out on today is being bored!
After a bit of thought, I tend to agree;
When I was young, with noting to do, and was bored, I found something to do - as you said, it might have been sitting in the yard playing with a stick, and I used my imagination to make it more fun.
As you said, parents often these days organise their kids to such an extent that, if there's a danger of boredom setting in they either jump in the car and take them somewhere, or sit them in front of a screen.

The only zombies I saw whilst growing up were at the front of the class, mostly talking bollocks.
But it's an achievement thing, with a lot of violent games.
Rather than setting themselves to achieve something real, people have been more and more submerged into a reality where recognised achievements are things like watching particular movies or TV shows, or beating levels in computer games*, and these become the only achievements that they're willing to put any effort into.
Some game makers have responded to hard-core gamers' skills in achieving these completely pointless achievements by increasing the difficulty of games, whilst others try (much like TV and the movies) to appeal to the lowest common denominator, by making many of the achievements as easy as possible -- in the case of this game, that probably equates to killing unarmed, slow sprites.
We're all guilty of this achievement-placebo thing to differing degrees, and I think we're all aware that we're each capable of becoming the worst kind of couch/game potato, so we really shouldn't cast out motes, but it really does piss me off when I think that the vast majority of man's achievements are completely worthless, fabricated, entertainment-centred cr@p.
Why don't we have a colony on Mars? Why don't we know everything there is to know about our earthly biosphere? Why are there still mysteries of science and unsolved Mathematical quandaries?
Because we're too busy watching tivoed garbage and shooting for high scores to get our daily dose of achievement, that's why.
* Note how I cleverly avoided mentioning posting to message boards, here! That's an achievement in itself, so I'm done for the day!

Has anyone ever worked with a big, mouthy ego type, so full of their own wonderfullness, just oozing smugness with every contrived sentence?
I have had the displeasure to have suffered such a person for a few months, and along with that, there has been a complete inability to actually produce anything. Endless excuses, delivered in an unctuous, self important way and whose solutions, described in a highly self flattering fashion, manage to totally avoid the fact that the problems were caused by the pillocks own stupidity! And the managers never realised!
Such is the depth of incompetence on display that not only has the company paid nearly 100K for a few days work, but the fact that it took many months to be half delivered, in a buggy and unfinished state, actually delayed and cost the company even more, and not only that, but the level of self satisfying noise emanating from this particular individual led to all kinds of bad decisions and erroneous paths of investigation being followed that the effect has been even more deleterious than is immediately apparent!

These guys are great if you do not work with them, I went through 4 contracts in the 90s (about 3 years) repairing one guys screw ups, it generally takes a few months for an organisation to realise they have a fake on board but a good manager will spot it and chuck the guy.

The guy I'm thinking of was his own worst enemy, we were members of the same user groups, and he could not help bragging about his new client, I would then get a prior victim to contact the new client.
He had a great line of bullshit and could sustain it for 2-3 months about the time the client was looking for real progress, oops!

Flew back from Amman, having avoided radicalisation etc...Decided to watch the sequel to The 300.
5 Hour flight, so that finished, decided to watch Rev - a UKian comedy about an inner city vicar.
Rev had a warning about adult themes 300 didn't.
300: topless woman within 5 mins , weird sex scene with the ever delightful Eva Green, plus Gore & violence.
Rev: most offensive thing - Pomegranate and Pineapple tea.
