According to the article languages at Wikipedia[^] it seems to be a device used more often in Nothern Europe.
The German entry even has a "Handling" section. Quite funny for me as German because the device can be found in every market here.

Perhaps. They are everywhere in the US and have been my whole life but for some reason people just don't seem to use them. Such a simple task.

I am 43 years old, and have been living in the U.S. all those years (east & west coast), and I have never, ever, seen one that blinks. That is amazingly silly. Thanks for posting.
