The big deal here is, I would suspect, is that they collect your info and don't remove it (such as phone number). And they do so without your own consent. Sure, the NSA does it, but that's because we have no real say-so over that.

Hm. The white pages have always done that and as far as I know, I never gave my consent. Perhaps it is inherent in requesting a phone number that you give your consent for some things.

Where? I said that phone numbers have been in the white pages forever. I don't have a cell phone and also haven't used the whitepages since the internet came around so I don't know what they are doing regarding cell phones. Don't care either.
