You can use the SSRS Report Viewer control and create SSRS Reports. You can also do Crystal Reports. I believe those are probably the 2 most common report engines used with ASP.Net.

I have four fields, A, B, C, D
Fields A, B, and C will have numerics added to them. I want that when I have added data to all three fields then field D will automatically be updated with the SUM of the 3 fields A, B and C.
Anyone know how to do this?

Put an onchange event on each textbox that calls a JS function. In the function, check if all 3 textboxes have numbers in them. If so, add them and put the result into the 4th textbox.

I have data in a SqlServer table and I want to Select the data into a gridview or something like that and perform a calculation on the data.
I want to have a button that will carry out a calulation on all the records displayed and save the total for each record after the calculation to a field in the DB table containing the records.
Anyone any ideas on best way to do this?

There is any reason NOT to do the calculations inside SQL? SQL is pretty good with calculations...

I have a system which has an asp.net front end and a SQL Server DB.
I get a file in the form of an excel spreadsheet every few weeks that contains a number of fields. I want to load it into the DB and the appropriate fields in the excel spreadsheet would go into the corresponding field in the DB tables.
Anyone know how to do this?

You could also use SSIS or even create a job to do the work and schedule it in SQL.

i have requirement of running my application over wan hence i used a fixed ip addres in browser i.e(fixed ipaddress//hostmachineip address//mk(virtual directory)/xyz.aspx(cs file))...and m getting follwing error while accessing my app over wan

That message is telling you the real message is being hidden. Do what it says and turn custom messages off to see the real error message.

yes i did custoerrors mode =Off in web.config file but not result

Then the web config you think your site is using isn't the one that it *is* using so your site\virtual directory is probably misconfigured.

but its working fine in LAN but not WAN....hence how should i resolve this issue now..if not configured then it wouldnt have worked over lan ?

Check the application event log on the server. The error should be logged there.
We can't see your code, and we can't access your server. Without the error, we can't even begin to tell you what's wrong.

Thanks for the response... but when i checked event log on server then found an event called wpn connection failure which is just new to me...what is all about this?

That error is unlikely to be related to the problem.
It sounds like the request isn't reaching your server. It's probably a router or firewall configuration issue.

one more doubt when m accessing my application using fixed ip adddress then i should type in browser as follwow
fixed ip adrees//ip address of host machine??
when i did so then got follwing message in
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
since i have installed iis in my host machine in this way if i access my application with above entry then it should show me iis page not the 404 instead?...please correct me if i am wrong....n do help me with solutions.

For your site to be accessible via just the IP the site has to be mapped accordingly so that all requests for the IP go to your site (or all requests in general by leaving the "hostname" empty in the bindings). At the end of the day your site is wrongly configured, we can't access your IIS settings, we don't know how you've set it up. I'd spend some time learning how you configure sites and how IIS works, as just repeatedly saying that your site doesn't work is like phoning a mechanic and saying "My car doesn't work, what's wrong?"

i have already configured my host machine ip address to my router with which host machine is connected with ...hence i just need to type a publice ip address on the browser of remote machine and ip addres of host machine like below
public ip address//host machine ip address configured to the router
in this way once i type above in remote machine my iis page should be displayed ....but its giving error that serever not found....which is not the case when i am doing the same in LAN ....infact my app is working fine....only while making it work over WAN m getting the issues....please let me know where i am going wrong

That is, I don't want to instantiate a second form (or third or forth..) when I click a new row. I want the form already there, say form2, to show the data row from form1.
form1 has the gridview. Click one line and the textboxes on form 2 populate with the new row selected.
Is this possible?

I am following this tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/aspnet/mvc_models.asp, to get data from SQL CE using Entity Framework. There doesn't seem to be much code. The tutorial is for MVC3 but my project is MVC4, but I think major steps should be same.
I created a SQL CE database, and a table with needed columns.
Added data to the table.
On the C# side I have

And code in respective controller

return View(c);
}
That sample is for movies database, I changed all relevant info to employees.
I added the connection string as in that tutorial too.
But when I navigate to the Index page of above controller, the empty list is returned. What did I miss?
It seems I gave correct meaning to table columns too (e.g. similar to Employee class properties)
