At work, we have these extremely high-res monitors now and of course my eyes aren't what they used to be.
So a couple of Win10 updates ago, I could change just the text so I had high-res and text size that was readable.
Text Size No-Choice
Now, Microsoft on one of the numerous updates has made it so I can _only_ enlarge the size of the text on certain feature/areas of the OS. However, the main text in a window cannot be enlarged.

I know. I know. It's a pad/phone world out there and these text sizes don't matter on there.

Yes, I'm replying to myself. But, here's another thing.
My system sounds are turned all the way down to 0 (zero).

System Sound, No!
And yet, when I change the resolution on my monitor, it warns me that it is not the optimal resolution and makes a noise -- what I would call a system sound.
So, where do you control that sound? Isn't it obvious? In Settings...Notifications & Actions...scroll down... Show Notifications from these apps....igxTray.exe....

The PC I have at work is a Dell XYZ, I had to unplug the speakers as they were picking up the wireless printer outside my office. So no dings for me!

No, it was quietly driving me batty!

On your desktop, right click and choose "Personalize".
Then go to "Themes" -> "Theme settings" -> "Sounds".
Select sound scheme "No Sounds".
You'll never hear a system sound from any app again

"No sounds" is a bit much; just get rid of the defaults.
Sounds on my machines range from Homer Simpson's "D'oh!", through Wishbone's "Hello-o!", to Fred Flintstone's "Yabba-dabba-doo!"

There are effectively no benefits to upgrading to Win10.
Really what you get is more maintenance work. You have to figure out where everything is.
I had win7 for years and it was great.
I bought a new laptop with 8.1 on it and it was completely fine.
I upgraded to Win10 because it was free but there is nothing special about it except that MS now controls me more --- and my graphics card flickers often on my i7, 8GB laptop.

When I will have at least one reason to absolutely change I will. Probably to 8.1 if it will cover the needs.
Changing for the sake of change is a waste of effort and all related resources (money, time, sanity, happiness, comfort...).

I am developing a UWA / UWP (Universal Windows APP / Platform) in XAML C# and to do that Visual Studio forced me to update the hte Windows 10 Anniversary edition. It was all quite terrible.

Why?
Hardly anyone uses "universal" apps. Even microsoft hasn't got "universal" apps for anything really useful, e.g. office, VS, Visio, and skype. The only things that are "universal" are games that everyone plays on the X-box, anyway, and comparatively useless apps with incomprehensible UIs.
I'd give it a miss. In a couple of years, "universal" apps will be as dead as the Home Server and Slate PCs.

Actually, I live-streamed the Microsoft ignite and learned some interesting stats about Microsoft.
I thought they were failing also, but actually -- in terms of cloud they are definitely winning.
They have something like 75% of Fortune 500 companies signed up for their cloud solutions.
Now, you might think, "Cloud? what do I care for the cloud?" Right, but big businesses do care and small business (start-ups) care too, because there is a MUCH smaller introductory cost to get up to speed with a strong infrastructure.
All of that focus on cloud is probably why desktop is suffering. They don't care right now.
So, why the UWA? Eventually, it will be there. Right now it is the best way to build an app that is easily accessible by Win10 users (get from app store). It is also the only way to add advertisements (I know you're smiling now) to a free app. Yes, you can simply pay $0.99 for the app and then the ads are gone so I think that is a fair trade-off.
Microsoft is too big to fail. INstead they can limp along for years throwing money at issues until they are finally just about as good as other choices --- which have gone out of business. Yes, that is a catch-22 as it is goo and bad.
The most important thing to me with the UWA is __easy deployment__ and that's the main thing I get from the Windows Store.
Also, UWA means XAML (which I alternately like a bit and then hate) which (if Microsoft is around in 5 years) will be the way to build all "desktop" apps (if there is such a thing). The windows form apps and that stuff has a serious crufty build-up. I hate to say it since I've been using those controls since Win3.1
