I love the way that Max is using Trump's BS to raise money for good causes and one has to wonder, if enough people were on board, whether reversing the direction of trade could actually reverse the Trump factor in a huge way. Company X roll over to Trump and their shares plummet. Company Y stands up to him and their shares soar. That, in itself, sounds like a great thing - ethical investment forcing companies to behave in a civilized manner - but the more that you think about it, the scarier it gets. Bots could be used to drive all kinds of agendas in a similar way and an awful lot of people don't have very nice agendas.
Slogans aren't solutions.

Initially, people assumed that a Trump tweet would bring a business down. But in the last couple of weeks, any negative tweet he's made seems to have had a positive effect on the businesses. Although, it could swing the other way too I guess.

Amen to that. I jumped on board with the Robinhood[^] crowd around May last year and decided to give stock trading a go. While I may be up, I would be easier to calculate the most probable path of a photon originating from the core of the Sun then figure out what causes market moves.

Well, if you know the stock in question is going to move BIG time but don't know the direction, you can always buy vol

The Dreaded Bimbo Factor
One thing I couldn't stand about the stock market is what I call the Bimbo Factor. Let me explain with a hypothetical situation...
The CEO of a company, whose stock price is $100, has a wife and family. He also has a mistress in every major city that he frequently visits. Everything is going ok until one of his mistresses decides to threaten to expose their relationship to his family. In a panic, he siphons one million dollars from the company's retirement fund to pay off this mistress with a huge diamond ring. Word gets around to the other mistresses and they begin to make the same kinds of threats. In a short while, the company's retirement fund is completely depleted. Two years later the lack of money in the retirement fund is noticed and this triggers an investigation. When the reason for the investigation becomes public knowledge, the stock plummets to $1 per share.
Basically, the Bimbo Factor states that one random act from a single "Bimbo" can bring a multi-billion dollar corporation or even an industry to near collapse.
However, not all hope is lost. Given the right Bimbo Factor opportunity, you might be able to buy a $100 stock for $2. And for some reason if the company recovers from the situation, you could potentially have a 5000% return on your investment. Generally speaking, though, that does not happen.
You can't win.
You can't break even.
You can't quit.

Not at all the point I'm making. Real life example:
I had oil options contracts during the Iran/Iraq war. An Iraqi naval ship fired on an oil tanker coming from Iran. So what do you think happened?
The price of the oil contract (and underlying futures, of course) dropped like stones!
The reason given - the day after the drop, of course - is that investors now feel that now the large military powers will get involved and protect the oil traffic, thereby making things safer.
Now THAT is bullshit!

Ignoring the issue that President's role is to promote macro-economic benefits instead of spruiking individual companies. Y'know - that little ol' thing called the law (which I understand he's actually not subject to in this case: it's only for government employees. But still  )

Up until this point the thread has been exceptionally polite and apolitical.
I prefer to leave this and demonstrate we can actually be grown up and not angry. The thread hasn't blown up (apart from - I hate to say - your series of messages) so let's give everyone the benefit of the doubt instead of assuming the worst.
If it goes bad then it gets locked down.

Adventurous is the correct word.
If sentiment-analysis takes the wrong conclusion (which likelihood increases if one has to be cryptic because of a character-limit) the bot may be trading on the wrong side.

I know exactly what you mean. In a mature world, we should be able to post your post all day long, smile, laugh and enjoy each other's company. But some people can't hear the T word without making it political, and CP isn't exactly knowing for maturity. It happened in this thread. It'll continue to happen.

Due to past misdemeanors, I am using MATLAB these days. In their standard libraries is a inputdlg function that lets you enter simple unvalidated values; very useful when there is no need for a complex form.
Now I simply wanted to be able to position it; in my case I wanted to place it above the control on the UI that called it. On their support pages are lots of people asking the same questions and their response - you can't!
You can, I wrote a replacement.
