What he said.

There is actually a need in the market place. The problem is finding decent people to do the work (if they are decent, they tend to be very busy) for people who have no idea how to find them. I'll give you an example...

in the days when there were newsgroups, and I know they still live, I would follow CE related development issues... Someone worked for a company who was managing a convention or something. They had numerous ticket scanners (running CE) that could read a barcode. They wanted an app that would collect scanned tickets on each device, save the results to a file. At the end of a convention, they would collect the devices, remove the files and pull them all into a spreadsheet.

So this guy posted a query if anyone was out there that could do something like that... yeah, I can and did do that. But think about the environment... this guy had no clue who I was. I had no clue who he was. Some risk, but after some phone calls and emails, he had his code, I had my money, all were happy.

I think if you really want to do freelance work - small jobs I'm thinking of - it's not going to happen on these websites. You need to get out there in local groups and network. I hate saying that word. Network. Call it street cred. It's priceless. Code Project is a good start.
