I don't know much. Alternatively you could try sites like itch, gumroad which are popular among indie creators. Better than current paypal option.

I heard that fb advertisements don't work much nowadays. You could promote your site too side by side which is one more better option. Make an udemy free course(30 min) about your app.

Softpedia cnet and the like are old software listing sites, which don't really promote your software. You get some exposure but don't expect too much
there are sites like bitsdujour that give you a platform for a 1-day 50% sale, which will give you some income and an audience for a time. There are also some 100% giveaway of the day kind of sites, but my experience with them was dismal. But it could work for you

I am in the market for a new notebook - for a number of reasons, but mostly because I want to be able to display the video from my XBox360 on my notebook, something that I cannot do because I have given up on using my old solution of a VBox2 Advanced dongle (that used to work), and my current notebook does not have HDMI input (which I could use to display the HDMI output of the XBox360) - and would like to be able to narrow down my choices of which ones have the features I want (with being able to accept HDMI video being the most important), rather than look at an endless list of systems and go through the features for each one. I had thought that TigerDirect had a good system for doing this comparison, but I don't see anything there about selecting for HDMI input.
On this same note, TigerDirect does have a selection for the video system, and thus perhaps I should look at what video systems have HDMI input, and then use that as a "reference &" for having HDMI input, but then I would need to familiarize myself with the plethora of such systems.
Also, I am looking into somehow just playing the XBox360 directly on the notebook via Windows 10 - or through something called "Xenia", although when trying to do this, I got the message that I need "Vulkan" video compatibility, which I am trying to work out with my system by downloading a new driver for my Radeon R5 video, but that seems to have screwed up my system even more as now I am getting this stupid message "Your hardware settings have changed. Please reboot your computer for these changes to take effect" even after I reboot  . There is also the Dolphin emulator that I have yet to try, but I have a feeling that I will get issues with that as well. Any advice here would be helpful as well.

I took a look at that site and it looks like it _could_ be interesting.
I don't even mind ads. But that site has so many ads you almost cannot even see the actual content.
I even get the idea that they are providing the reviews for free so I might have to view some ads, but that site is over-the-top ridiculous. Thanks though.

This came up at work today & I though I'd ask what you guys think...
Generally as with most salaried jobs we don't get paid overtime. But occasionally we're asked to work additional hours for specific tasks, and are paid overtime.
The overtime rate is fixed across the company (more or less, I believe!) and for me equates to somewhat less than my normal hourly rate.
This seems weird!
So I had to come in over the weekend (about 9 hours work all up, plus commuting time) and asked if I could take a day off in lieu.
Rather than the expected 'Of course, thanks for helping out' I got 'well, just this once - and don't tell anyone else or they'll all start wanting time off in lieu'.
I've been working in IT for 40 years - but this company isn't an IT company, so I'm wondering if perhaps this is the norm in some industries?
Thoughts, comments, sympathy and job offers appreciated...

By the way your overtime rate sucks. It should be 1.5 times normal rate.
Some firms pay it. some dont, even on salaried wages, it varies.
As for time off, that is normal. You are contracted to work x number of hours, but of course you expect a bit of flexibility, working late a few nights, getting in late a few mornings, but anything beyond this, either way, is abuse.

At one company, I was given a very nice pay increase as a "thank you!".
Which just happened to move me from the "we pay overtime" salary band to the "you don't get paid overtime any more" band.
As a result I lost about 1/8th of my take home money. I was not a happy bunny.

I do not know how it is done in real life, but there is a law about 150% for simple overtime. 200% for night-time and weekends...

Overtime is usually more expensive than normal hours, but it is up to you what you accept and don't accept.

Yes, we do. You don't get free labor from me. If you say overtime isn't paid, you are saying there is no overtime. Just "free" time.

From the financial POV:
One of the reasons overtime is paid (by law, in many countries) at a higher rate than normal is to make it less attractive to the employer, the idea being that employees deserve reasonable amounts of time off. Time off in lieu may seem attractive, but you are actually being paid at a rate of 100% when you should be receiving a higher rate.
From the personal POV:
Having an extra day off gives you more time to spend with your family, but may not be that attractive if the rest of the family is still at school, work, etc.
Personally, I'd go for the cash.
