A friend who has a website hosted by GoDaddy asked if I knew how to add a shopping cart or similar to the site so they could start selling their products. I had no idea, never having used this type of hosting to create a web site before.
Anyway, I established that they already had a square space account up and running so didn't need to do that bit. Armed with that and some images of the products, it took around 15 minutes to get it up and running with a fully functional shopping cart.
Bloody brilliant!

While I'm sure there'd be good lessons to learn writing that sort of code, payment processing is one of those areas I'd rather hand out to someone who does it for a living.

I just used ejunkie. Set up an account, copy a link and add it to your webpage and ready to go. MY problem is the marketing and advertising, not the shopping cart!

But please, take a look at all the legal things... when payments are involved, you'll need your customer details (personal, bank...) and this can lead your friend to tons of problems... https, insurance, legal advice... are things to consider...

I know. It sounds really dangerous. There are naysayers but I think it will probably be the end of technology as we know it. After that, probably no electricity.
