My mistakes are usually off-by-one errors (e.g. ertr instead of were).

You'd never make these mistakes if you switched to the Dvorak keyboard setup[^].
The qwerty setup was created to slow you down!
In the old days when typewriters were used, the mechanical keys would bump each other if a person typed too fast so they created qwerty to slow typists down.
Yes, it's a conspiracy that makes you type so poorly!

Way back in my old typing class (using manual typewriters), we were told that the qwerty keyboards were made so that the most common words would use an equal combination of left and right keystrokes. One letter from the left or right, the next from the other hand. This would speed up typing. Typing two letters from the same hand simultaneously would slow the typist down. This made perfect business sense. The more typing that could be done in the least amount of time meant more money for the business. (And, this goes back many generations.) [My first typewriter was an Underwood.]

What's really weird is that, apart from misplaced spaces, this is the only common typo I do.

That's a common one of mine, too.
Not so much a typo as a failure between brain and finger, it really annoys me when I type the wrong word ... For example, their is know way I can tolerate this. I hate it when I read that sort of drivel, so it really upsets me when my fingers type it! They're doing it more and more as well, when I'm typing at speed.

I can handle typos. What drives me up the wall is keyboards that have narrow Shift keys at either end so some manufacturer could add an extra key (or even two) that doesn't belong there.

For whatever reason I often miss the second "o" when I type SET NOCOUNT ON.
All other errors I blame on a faulty keyboard driver which cannot read my sloppy typing.
Particularly when my password fails. I know my password, the computer just can't read it

Yeah, that has been getting to a frequent problem - then I went to the neurologist and was told I have 'essential tremors' in my left hand ( only the left one though  ). And why it is called 'essential' I do not understand - I certainly don't want or need it. I have to spend more time rereading what I type to make sure I didn't double a letter or miss one....

I always press the correct keys. The order of the keys is the problem. For eaxmple.
