“It’s not just about writing the code, but you have stand up for your code and defend your code, and there is a certain male attitude that is endemic in many projects where a woman would just not feel comfortable claiming that she is right,” he explained.
To suggest that women aren't capable of defending their code and that they need men like Guido is sheer arrogance and patronising to any woman in the field.

“The first time I heard the term unconscious bias was maybe five years ago and it was an eye opener.” It’s changed him, and he thinks it could change others.
There is absolutely no scientific link between unconscious bias and behaviour, this is why it has never been used within a court room. What is inside someone's head is not important, it's what the person does and their behaviour that's important. After all, we can have certain thoughts in our head, but never act on them. And it's impossible to stop unconscious bias, seeing as it's unconscious and we are therefore not conscious of it.
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare
