I agree that they are breaking what Microsoft was.
They see that a big % of the average Joe / Janes don't really uses a computer as it was used to anymore. They see the market share of Android and iOS and want a part of the cake.

Quite so, and surely stuff like this is part and parcel of all that. They have to build more into the OS, just as phones effectively do and just as the Linux ecosystem (with its distributions with loads of packaged apps supplied directly by the distribution) do.

But the problem is... they have forgoten / are too dumb to see, that they were (and still are) the kings of the PC market but, on the other hand, that if they don't resign and get a step back of those non-sense trying to integrate mobile things with the PC, they are going to screw it up definitivelly beyond all points of recovery.

It strikes me that they have long since left their strategic errors with Windows 8 behind. At the time, Microsoft weren't the only company to make the mistake of thinking that everything was going touch-centric. Ubuntu and Gnome, for example, made the same error.

Despite being told repeatedly and on a massive scale by their Windows 8 beta testers that the phone/touch-centric UI was a massive error, they (well, Sinofsky) pressed on with it and severaly damaged Windows.

Since then, however, it seems to me that they have recovered and now made touch an option, not a coercion.

Beyond that, Microsoft is surely right to integrate usability and resilience features into Windows. That is what users genuinely want and need, it seems to me.

But they do already. Big corps already have an increasing number of Linux servers. But Windows remains king on the desktop and laptop for the simple reason is that it is... well... 'better'. This is not to denigrate Linux desktops (many of which are very good in their own ways), but Windows does now seem to have got it right for the corporate, SOHO and home desktop/laptop environment.

What we're seeing here, no matter how much it irritates some people, is more of Microsoft getting it right I think. There's nothing here that breaks Windows in the way that the Windows 8 UI for the main Windows desktop/laptop market -- this is just more of the additional stuff that end users really do want, or need, or expect, in home and corporate environments.

Well, that's how it seems to me.
