OK - so they want lots of police, a big army, subsidies and price supports for farming and wide roads for their pickup trucks.
They want someone else to pay for it.
I don't see the problem.

Omitted lest this become a job for SoapBox. No controversy if no names given. Don't take any hints from the OP's title - that would be cheating.

Last time I checked, it would have taken me 72 years to catch up to OG. It's now up to 400 years.
Do points above a certain level start earning interest?

I'm beginning to think that OG is a bot, or at the very least - a group of people.

Really - all you need to do to catch up is build a couple of boiler-plate Q&A responses for things like "we don't do your homework for you" and the points will gush in. You can also upvote everything you see: at a point per upvote you'll shave years off that gap.*
* I don't know what you might be thinking, but 'shaving' and 'gap' in the same sentence isn't necessarily a violation of KSS rule.

The scenario:
I found the problem and wrote a try-catch around it. If you want me to dig deeper into the actual issue, let me know.
Sigh. YES I WANT YOU TO DIG DEEPER!!! It's not that the person in question is stupid - far from that. Not even lazy. Just a "trigger-solution" mentality - oh, I found the problem, here's the first idea that pops into my head on how to fix it, done.
How do you train a person like that, to be more thorough, more detail oriented, more meticulous, and not just reach for the "try-catch" nuclear radiation shielding when a simple "if statement" pot holder works much better, explains the issue to the next developer, and doesn't hide true nuclear meltdown issues?
The above is a specific example of a frequent general problem.
