Findcontrol not finding control with changed id

I have a 2 sets of TextBoxes in a gridview that I changed there id's in the datarowmound method. In this method I change the names of the textboxes to differ from the code wrote in the ascx file, as the textboxes have one ID. I did this so I could some work with jquery. I now need to save the data nd the control is not picking up when I try to find it? I take it there is issues changing a controls Id's at the Server? I am looking for a way to find the text within the textboxes.

I have tried by calling the control for ro by find control and by the row and cell and all to no avail.
