I'm with you. I had a colleague who left the company a little while ago. We were good friends and got along perfectly. But on his going away party he told me that even though he had loved working with me, he was very disappointed that I had shown no interest in the two children he had gotten while working at the company.

Excuse me, but I don't get it. So it's a big deal for him, why does it have to be for the rest of the world? What is so special? He has only done what precisely ANYBODY in the whole world can do and does every so often...

Another thing that pisses me off: I have to (indirectly through the taxes) pay for his paternity leave (and that of every other person, male of female who get children). I have deliberately chosen NOT to have any, why should I pay for everybody else? Let the people who choose to have children pay for them as well. That would be fair in my opinion.

Plus: For the next 18 years, he is allowed to stay away from work whenever he feels like it to "care for his children". Some parents may be ok with this, but I know some who deliberately abuse it (I have another colleague who's gone almost every other day, and NO children are that sick!). I of course have to work harder because they don't carry their workload... Frown | :-(

Rant over, anybody with children can flame me and vote abuse now, but I feel entitled to my opinion even though I know that not everybody shares it...
