Disabling the LinkBUtton in chrome and Mozilla

I have<a id="link1" runat="server"/>
$('a[id*="link1"]').attr("disabled", "disabled"); is working fine in Ie but not working in chrome and Mozilla need to disable it in Chrome and Mozilla
