I am copying a sql2008r2 database from a laptop in a pendrive. In a desktop I have installed the same sql2008r2. In the desktop I am creating a database. Now in the desktop I use 'restore database' and select 'from device' to restore backup sets. It doesnt work and says' Compatability error- source is from 10.50.1600 and destination server is 10.0.1600'. Why this is so when I have used the same installation of sql2008r2 in both the machines? Earlier the desktop was with SQL2008. Can anyone guide?
Regards.

if i use sql2010 (higher version) in desktop will it work?

You mean SQL Server 2012... I do not know 2010 official version...
If you want to provide compability between servers then upgrade ms sql server on both devices.

Hi Macial Los ..
I was not knowing that "Versions of MS SQL server on laptop and desktop computer are not the same."
Thanks for mentioning..
i would like clear my confusion,so can you tell me that do you mean "sql server 2008r2 on desktop" and "sql server 2008r2 on laptop" would not be same, even if i am installing from same setup file???
waiting for your response..
would be better if you provide any link which states little more on the same topic..

I don't think so that was the same setup file... Different versions... different setups. Follow above link to check the date of publishing.
