This happens with age. The width increases while the height remains fairly constant

and I've edited your use of the <pre> block by changing the tag attributes to lang="c#"
It looks better now

Thanks, but the "lang" attributes do not seem to work in comments.

No, and this was how we designed it originally.
Comments where meant to be for small comments. Asking for clarification, nudging someone to make some corrections. Having codeblocks and useful solutions be posted in comments often means a lot of the meat gets lost, so others coming along to find an answer miss the info in the comments. Hence, we want the focus to be on asking a good question and posting (and improving) a good answer.
And I totally accept that this is not how the system is being used, and I know the arguments for providing a rich and robust comment system. However, I still do not want the comment system to be so bright and sparkly that it's the place the real good stuff gets posted.

Absolutely agree, Chris. I just wish that when I post "Please use the Improve question link above, and add complete details of what is not working.", people would actually do it, rather than reply with another comment containing 50 lines of code.

Any thoughts on how we can solve this?
Obviously a bunch of people going in and cleaning / fixing / moving / editing questions would do it, but there also needs to be the culture, the understanding of the plan, and acceptance.

I don't think there is a great deal that we can do beyond cleaning up when things get messy. Unfortunately there is no simple way to get people to do the right thing. Some people just ignore suggestions as to how they use the comments fields. Some people post Solutions as comments or questions. Some perhaps get it wrong due to difficulty with the English language - especially when we use certain idiomatic expressions. And since people tend not to read the "rules" there is no way of getting them educated before they start using the forum; just count the number of homework questions we see. So I guess bottom line is trying to set some guidance for us regulars, as to what we should do to keep things tidy.

Richard,
I am very sorry, but in my attempt to reformat your comment, the formatter has deleted most of the content.
Could you re-enter it.
And yes, the pre tag seems to be broken for comments.
"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

Not to worry, if I had a pound for every time I've done something similar ...
I have rewritten it to the best of my recollection.

I’m using an iPhone. I did manage to log in with the login option available next to the reply button in the forums

I’m using it on my iPhone and iPad and aren’t seeing any issues. What are you seeing happen when you try to login?

Nothing happens if I tap once or twice on the login button. I’m not used to browsing the web from a phone. It just came to my mind that I don’t have the latest OS and web browser updates, that could be one of the issues causing the problem
|
|
|

It shouldn't require the latest and greatest OS. It's fairly simple Javascript and CSS.
On your iPhone, are you using the built in Safari browser or a different browser?

Without more information, I don't think anyone could tell you what happened to it: it could have been deleted as spam, closed as "not a question", or just removed because teh gods were angry at the time.
It might even be that somebody hit the wrong button(s) ...
What was its content? Where was it posted? When? Give the hamsters some information to work with, please!

I wonder why you don't fix the bug I have for years now.
I always have a notification about "We need your permission to email you (It's a CASL thing...)" for many years now. If I click on it, it says:
"Why aren't I getting newsletters anymore?
Because of the Canadian Government. Sorry.
It looks like you've already given us consent to send you emails. You're a saint."
I already asked multiples times to fix that bug but nothing happen.
Is there any programmers working on the website? Why don't you just fixit? It shouldn't be so hard, so why just fix it?

Eric,
I've just gone through the process myself. I've reset the flag on my account, I log in, and I see this message when I view an article:

I click the "click here" button and I go to this page:

I check the checkbox and click "let's do this". I refresh, the message has gone.
I'm looking at your account and I see that you did this about 5 years ago. That message should not be being shown on your account.
I will email you directly and we can look at further options.
cheers

There are a lot of “senior” (gray haired) devs on here that have a lot of historic knowledge.
Maybe have a “Time Capsule” or History forum to capture some of these back stories.
It might work better as vignettes that could be added onto profiles.
Topics/teasers/prompts like:
First system you programmed?
Hardware/languages/tools/product delivered/pain points/etc
Repeat for second system, third system,
Linked in of out of date platforms?
Forum could possibly be platform centric where each original post could be one system. PDP-11, the Wang Guide, Apple Newton, C64, etc
