Basically - I've delved into the rabbit hole .. I'm looking to learn the languages necessary to build a Desktop App (on Windows) that will allow me to stream/play YouTube videos; or any video with a direct link, perhaps. The app will have little GUI-- Just enough to access settings.

My idea (among other reasons for creating this app) is to have a quick, and easy way to say; Watch a tutorial video on a specific video game part. Or perhaps while learning to code, having a video-player that is forced to stay the top window, so I can work on the task at hand, and still see the video. Now, I have a dual screen setup.. so this is somewhat for a 'portfolio' type deal, as well as practice, as well as an eventual open source release for those who aren't as fortunate to have 2+ monitors, etc etc.

Any Ideas? I've read up on so many languages, and what they do.. that I seem to have blurred the line on which ones will be needed for a project like I've given myself.

What I have tried:

Google-fu/articles/blogs/videos, etc etc. Just need some direct input from a knowledgeable, and or experienced developer.

The .NET framework and C# are probably the best tools for such a project. The .NET framework has lots of built in classes to help you do most things quite easily; although you do need to get a good understanding of C#. Go over to .NET Articles[^] and see what is available here on CodeProject.
