Howdy, I've ported this generator to an Ajax solution by using Gaia Ajax Widgets. It's Open Source just as the original version and it can be found both as a sample running and as a code download here; Ascii Art Generator Ajaxified

Hmm...just doing a search on ASCII art to check up on this article and what do I find?
Some new articles on ASCII art generation in C#. Mostly similar to what this article has but maybe with a (slightly) different spin or implementation. Well, it's nice to have more than one solution, but...sigh...isn't it simpler to avoid re-inventing the wheel?
Anyhow, here's the new articles I found:

Hi Sau Fan,
Would you be interested in posting up my C# windows forms (desktop GUI) port of your ASCII Art Generator? I would like to share it with others and prefer not to host it elsewhere or write a new article for it if I don't have to.
If yes, I can send you the zip package by email.
Regards,
Dave

This is a nice article about Ascii art but if you really like converting pictures to ASCII
you should have a look at the following free tool:
http://reactor.reality-protocol.de/index.php?page=software/asciiart.html[^]
THIS REALLY IS GREAT !
It is a single executable which has lots of features such as:
- Selecting character set
- Color Depth
- Resizing
.
.
But the best feature is that you not only can export into HTML but as as well can produce
a JPEG image !
This is great if you want to print the ASCII art. Printing HTML from browsers can be a real pain
because of proportions, colors and very often the browser crashes if you have an image with
several thousands of charachters in each direction.

Oliver

First off,
This is awesome! Much more complex than http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/ascii_art_with_c_.asp
How hard would it be to get the ASCII output generated to open in a new window?

You can use the PostedFile.InputStream instead of saving the file to the file system

Nice work on this. I've seen this done with black-only font, and it's interesting that you got it to display the colors (pretty correctly) as well.

I was just looking at your article while my wife from the back immediately told me that this is Laetitia Casta
Is this true?
Maybe you can focus in the next update about how the chars are mapped to the pixel density and how the color mapping is done?

Please do NOT draft on-line -- either use your computer or a yellow pad (if you don't have a yellow pad, send your address and I'll send you one) -- I don't particularly want to repeatedly access your "article" to see if it finally has any substance to it or watch for repeated "updates" in the index.
