Remember the Oracle v. Google case?

The judge learnt enough programming to test out how complicated some of the patented routines may be and discovered they were trivial.

The end result was the the case was thrown out of the court.

Imagine that the same judge heard the Apple v. Samsung case. (Apple fanbois can stop reading here unless they want their blood pressure to shoot up through the roof.)

The judge would call for the Apple lawyers to approach the bench.

Judge: What is the shape of my desk?

Counsel: A rectangle.

Judge: Are the corners sharp?

Counsel: No, they are chamfered or rounded.

Judge: Is this court in violation of your patents on rounded rectangles?

Counsel: ?????

Judge: Case dismissed with prejudice.

Good - but it requires a joining of Common Sense and Law: which lawyers and judges are vehemently against as it would drastically reduce their wages... Smile | :)

Wow. That's more than just "common sense". It's going beyond your comfort zone of expertise. Excel at life.

(Do you have a source, FWIW?)

Big deal, I write code, but I judge people all the time.
