GeneralGodwin's Law II PinmemberDalek Dave10-Dec-12 3:09
We all know that the moment you use "Hitler", "Nazis" or "Fascism" in an argument, you lose.
This is Godwin's Law.

Is there a term that can be applied to Law Making that says that any time a politician uses "Child Abuse", "Paedophiles" or "Protecting Our Children" as an excuse to draft a law relating to invasion of privacy, then that law is automatically suspect?

From El Reg[^]

"Home Secretary Theresa May said the proposed surveillance law would "save lives" and help cops catch more paedophiles and terrorists."

No, that is the excuses they are using to implement a law that allows the government to read our private emails, record what websites we visit and intrude upon our private lives.

Now, I am not saying this government would use it for evil purposes, nor the next, but there is no guarantee that some future leadership would not misuse it.

[Caution Godwin's Law Abuse]
Imagine if, in 1900, Germany had the ability to register everybody's DNA, initially for 'Crime Detection', how much easier would it have been for the Nazis to single out the Jews?
The law may have been drafted for one reason, but the information would then have been used for such a terrible thing.

We should resist any government from monitoring us, and we should not give up our freedoms, and should always reject snooping laws that are created using the bromide of "Child Protection".
