Editorial Note

Having trouble writing or posting articles? These articles aim to gather together tips and tricks from authors and mentors to help you write great articles.

Computer mouse single and double-clicks are widely used in software applications. Less known is the mouse triple-click option, which could increase the convenience and overall productivity of computer operations. You could try this mouse triple-click technique right now, while reading the paragraph and see the result: the entire paragraph got selected.

Mouse triple-click feature is implemented in all major web browsers, namely:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer IE7+

  • Mozilla Firefox 3.6+

  • Google Chrome (any version)

  • Apple Safari 2.0+

The tricky part is to select the textual fragment containing the hyperlinks on the web page; in this case, do the triple-click while pointing the cursor slightly to the right of the hyperlink "hot spot" in order to avoid the page redirection to the target URL.

Mouse triple-click
feature is also implemented in many popular text editing software apps, like, for example, Microsoft Word (wider set of options is available in Microsoft Word, including the combination of mouse-click with Ctrl button).

I have been using this for a log time but never considered it as a triple click, more like a double click and then a single click. Not sure how browsers exactly work on the inside, but nice thought of the triple click

Well, you can call it in different ways, but the "triple-click" title is good enough to communicate the idea clearly. This triple-click feature is also present in various text editors, including MS Word. Regards- AB

What works best is to use Safari v5+ for reading an article (such as this one) and click the "Reader" button in the link bar.
With the article now displayed sans most ads (e.g., just the article), triple-click the first paragraph and hold the mouse down on the final click.
This will select the entire first paragraph.
With mouse still down, drag the selection (cursor) to the end of the article, the copy, then paste where you'd like....
I paste into a word processor to make the font bigger/the size I see without reader glasses (..ya, I'm getting old...) >sigh<

If Triple clicking seems cumbersome you can double click and then take a little time on the third click. It gives you a decent amount of time, but not forever. After playing with it though you can get a feel for how long you have.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for posting. Just for the clarity purpose: double-click is a well-known feature implemented practically in any major browser; it will cause a single word selection. Triple-click will select the entire paragraph.
Kind regards,
Alex
