Exactly what I thought - no need to watch, "Here is a monkey washing a cat" is simply a delicious sentence to read.

Which of the involved parties will have to take the role of the cat and which the one of the monkey?
A while ago he asked me what he should have printed on my business cards. I said 'Wizard'.
I read books which nobody else understand. Then I do something which nobody understands. After that the computer does something which nobody understands. When asked, I say things about the results which nobody understand. But everybody expects miracles from me on a regular basis. Looks to me like the classical definition of a wizard.

The Code Project Insider linked to an article reporting that Ray Ozzie is leaving Microsoft (ironically titled Microsoft visionary Ray Ozzie heads out the door) - Link[^]. Now, ignoring the fact that this "visionary" was the numptie responsible for Bloatus Groans, who is going to assume the role of Chief Software Architect? Intriguingly, it seems that nobody is - which does seem to indicate that one of the following two things will happen:
a) Ballmer will be responsible for the technical direction of the company
or
b) Technology decisions will be decided based on who shouts the loudest and has the coolest project name.
As far as I can see, option 1 means that MS will go bust in 4 years and option 2 means that it will be 3 years.

It's time for Ballmer to go.

I don't think Ballmer will want to relinquish the power so easily. So I agree with this option. Unfortunately, I think Microsoft is trying to move too fast and they have been, and will continue, to make mega-mistakes along the way.

I think they will likely royally screw up in the mobile space; I hear it's a nice product, but that's not enough. Maybe they can hire Seinfeld again.
The thing with Microsoft is they have SO much money, and are so profitable, that they can afford gigantic screwups and come out fine.
Plus, one area MS does not get enough credit for is the Xbox 360. That thing has changed the way my whole family uses the TV, and we're not alone. I hardly even play video games on it anymore (although I did just get Halo 3 and Fable II finally... yeah, I'm behind the times). The video game market is still largely ignored by mainstream media, for some reason, though it dwarfs hollywood in terms of money. Microsoft has a huge piece of that pie, and that really is thanks to careful planning and positioning in the market. Not to mention a nice product that only sometimes melts a hole in your floor.
He said, "Boy I'm just old and lonely,
But thank you for your concern,
Here's wishing you a Happy New Year."
I wished him one back in return.

Given the cash pile that Microsoft has, neither of those is going to happen quickly. There's still huge swathes of industry that are dependent on Microsoft software, and will keep on buying it for years to come.

I am not entirely sure what Ray Ozzie ever achieved at Microsoft. As for the job title they are just retiring it - it was created for Bill Gates and had no real purpose outside of Bill Gates.
