Understanding that an external list is a representation of data from an external source, if a column is not available in the source it will not be available the list. Although you could create an external list by exposing it via a .net object, I'm not even sure if you would have access to another list to create the lookup column from.
Its just like any other application. If you install SQL Server on a machine that already has it you need to use an instance name, so any other installations won't be affected. I would think about just upgrading the SQL Server to 2008 rather than putting two instances on the machine.
I am trying to upload multiple files in Sharepoint 2007. I want to upload the files and the metadata associated with. The metedata is stored in a SQL Server database. How can I get both the files and the metadata into sharepoint? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Got a little bit of an issue regarding WSS 3.0 and SSL certs. My boss has asked me to place all of our WSS 3.0 sites with SSL certs for better security within our network. We had a penetration test done last month and the guys performing the test were able to see users' passwords in clear text while they were "hacking" our network.
Now, we've got SSL certs on our servers, so the SharePoint server has one, but it was done a while ago and it looks like it isn't valid (I wasn't part of that project, but we have since moved to a new internal cert server). Using the new cert server I am able to get a cert onto one of the sites on the server, but when I try to pull up the site in both FF and IE9 I get an exception message and the cert that it is seeing is the server cert that seems to be invalid.
My questions are: 1) do I need to take off the server cert and get a new one from our current cert server and 2) how do I get the multiple WSS 3.0 sites on SSL?
You can always add the controls directly as html elements to a page. However, since it may involve distributing assemblies for the toolkit creating a solution package with Visual Studio would be a better approach.
It is extremely bad practice to manually edit web.config files for SharePoint. Any edits should be handled via a solution package so they can be applied to all web applications and servers in the farm.
I need to know how you can add images in a web part and contain them inside the web part so that when you deploy it on another server, the images automatically go with the whole package and get mapped automatically also. It was pretty easy with SP2010 as it has the “Mapped Folder” thing in it. So far I see a pictures library to use but you’d have to do something special for deployment purposes as I understand it. What I’m doing right now is that I am developing a web part with a grid view which would have standard icon like images in a column. What’s the best way to manage these images is what I’m looking for?
