Yeah, I'm aware. The issue is the lever requires serious force - at least on an LGA1700 socket in order to reseat it with the cpu in place. Like I said, I thought I was going to break something. It felt like forcing it. To err

Those ZIF sockets for the CPU were introduced due to the sheer number of pins on the modern processor. Imagine the nightmare if they'd stuck to the 40 pin DIL style socket for a 478 pin CPU. So the chip itself is easy to install. It's the damn heat

Call up the vendor and get a keyboard. Keyboards in laptops now-a-days are pretty easily swapped out. Some are just four to six screws in the bottom of the machine, others have "locks" hidden in the keys that you move or twist to unlock the keyboard
