still deciding if I'm going to spend a couple of days (4, 5) in London while being in France in 2 weeks, so, wondering, what's to do in London for a single guy in his 30's ...
I'd like to spend a good afternoon in a museum (max), and hopefully stay outdoor and walk around the rest of the time.

Currently a rather big building site at the moment... I'd give that one a miss for a few years.
Certainly the Science Museum is a must though.

I personally woud prefer the British Museum: You get Rooms and Rooms full of the worlds greates Antiques (all stolen when the Empire was in its prime ).
They have a great middle east section: Forget the Iraqi excavation sites being destroyed - most of the stuff that is more than just gravel rests secure in the British museum.
Aditionally, they have a lot of old egypt too, including the rosetta stone (but I think the one you can touch in the foyer is a replica, or else large part of it are actually unreadable by now )
Anyway - enjoy your trip into my favorite metropolis!

Now that would be cool! Tents all over the lawn, CPians trolling about trying to avoid Paul's and my camera, massive wireless network going....

Good itinerary - except the London eye is near Waterloo bridge

what to do in London UK ?
Where to start, where to start...
Personally I prefer London at night - possibly as the dirt is better hidden then. As for daytime activities, I enjoyed the tourist boat rides on the Thames. One goes from Westminster to Greenwich - the guide is full of info and it's an interesting trip. The other goes from Westminster to Hampton Court Palace. I haven't done this, but have been to Hampton Court and it was pretty interesting. Adding a boat trip can only be an improvement.
The London Eye is great, especially around sunset when the lights are coming on, but you can still see with some daylight. Other than that just walking around between Tower Bridge and Westminster you will see loads, day or night.
The parks are lovely and there's a free art museum off Trafalgar Sq if you're travelling on a budget. I'll try to think of more if you like
If you'd like to meet up let me know when you'll be here. I'm a tourist myself, although working here at the moment, and find London quite good fun.

I've got a question about the metro (underground/subway) in London...
I'm coming in London tuesday at around 18:15 by train (waterloo station), and I need to get to piccadilly circus station, I see that they are on the same line, do you think it's a big hassle travelling with a backpack at the time ?
Should I take a taxi or bus instead ?
Thanks.

- There's tons and tons of good stuff
- The British Museum has stuff from pre-history and up. Includes technology stuff too like very early clocks. There's 26 acres of gallery, so to see it properly you need weeks or months, not hours. At the top of the list are the Egyption and Mesopotamian galleries. Some excellent Britsh antiquities too.
- Rather than paying for a tour bus, one of the regular buses takes in most of the sights. No76? Get on it at Victoria rail station - ask at the bus station there. Oh, there's also a tourist info office there too.
- You must stroll down the Thames at dusk, and across one of the bridges.
- In the day, walk down the south bank of the Thames from the London Eye, past the globe, to Tate Modern. Pop in there too. Walk across the river to St Paul's Cathedral
