see the best way is to keep a hidden button and on the close of the window
call the click of the button which would in turn update the grid

see i would recommend you that to retrieve data from the data base using odbc and then feed it in the template you have created it would be much more easier and faster than using com components

first which type of authentication mode you r using if it is windows then you just need to do some settings in the browser and then redirect to the page where your button is
and if you are using forms authentication mode then i would recommend you to store the log in details in cookies in encrypted format and then on form load of the log in page check if there are cookies and then log in to the page where your button is
and the thing of the button being clicked automatically you can use the registerstartupscript if the user is login without the normal process and use javascript to call the button

it is possible through java script use style="display:none" to hide the tabs and to unhide the tabs use style="display:block" and use the onfocus funtion to do it

i wud suggest u to create a normal hyperlink n then call the onclik function with two parameters check if it works if it works properly then right click n viewsorce to see if the output which u r gettin is the same as the normal hyperlink output if nothing works use developers tool or debugg the javascript code
