you are right, but this tip demonstrates how to create linked server programmatically :) before a couple of weeks I had task to create Linked Server but without SSMS :)

can you set SQL Authentication mode on SQL Server to mixed mode? That could help you.

Look at his code. He try to test, whether item is selected. Because of this I guess he want to loop though selected items.
