You could argue: why do you need a watch when other gadgets (like a smart-phone or a tablet) show you the current time?
Watches are treated as jewellery, but otherwise, they are kind of anachronistic - if it's only about time, why not have it as a finger ring (maybe very flat and small)?

The biggest drawback of smart-watches is that you give up (without cause) on using one hand to operate the gadget.
The good thing is, you don't need a bag/pocket to store the watch when you not actually "use" it - it's "stored" at your wrist.

The best of both world would be if you could carry the thing without feeling it and use it with all your senses (both hands, eyes, ears, ...) when needed.
Maybe as a necklace Wink | ;-) , pierced to your ears Big Grin | :-D , sticked to your neck Smile | :) ... or put into your pocket (again) Wink | ;-) , ...

Of course, there are some niches that might get filled with some kind of modular gadget carried at your wrist: watch, bluetooh based phone, GPS, step counter, pulse meter, blood preassure meter, blood oxigen meter, sweat-o-meter Big Grin | :-D to determine when you need some specific food/food-additions (or medicine), etc. The watch-part is rather irrelevant in that case, just a goody. Internet surfing in the traditional sense (acquire information) or texting is probably not the strength of such a device - too small in any sense.

Cheers
Andi
