How do I find out what is causing a Stopped Working Error

I have a program written in visua1 studio 2010 vb.net. The program runs fine inside the vs environment but when I compile it and try to run I get the Program has stopped working error as soon as I click on the Icon. How can I find out what is causing this error.

I have compiled the program under vs 2012 and do not have this problem. I want to build it under 2010 so that I can use the setup program since Microsoft saw fit to remove it from 2012 and 2013.

Not enough information.
What happens is just clear indication that you are not doing any programming at all.
I call it "trying to repair a TV set by kicking it until it start showing the picture".

Take a look in eventvwr.exe to see if anything has been reported out there.
