It's a shame nothing came of this thread as I was looking forward to see some of your responses. My company has just made a lot of PM's and EC engineers redundant and replaced them with teams in Bangalore so I have first-hand experience of it at the moment. Overall I've been impressed with how the BGL teams have coped, seeing as they've basically been chucked in the deep-end with minimal training and a lot of negative feeling directed to them by co-workers aggrieved that they have 'stolen' jobs from friends. The only point I would agree with in the other thread is the failure to admit that something won't happen on time - this is causing problems in other areas of the business that could have been avoided if they would just hold their hands up and say "this isn't going to happen when you think it will but we will have it done by x". I assume this is a pride/cultural thing and admitting something will be late is admitting failure? The other points in that thread are just border-line racism.
I am not sure of how it is in the UK, but at least in the US, companies like Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Facebook do use the H-1B Visa to bring in highly qualified foreign workers. Many of these Visa workers file for permanent residency and eventually naturalize and become Americans.
That said, there are several companies, whose primary work model is to bring low cost, low skilled foreign workers, exaggerate their skills and experience in their resume, and use them as consultant contractors - and bill the client company by the hour, taking a large percentage of that and paying the actual worker a rather low salary.
People who are anti-H-1B try and paint the entire program as doing the latter, but it's not that black and white. There are many companies who use H-1B within the confines of what the law permits, and there is an actual skill shortage in certain areas here, as anyone will tell you who's done any type of hiring in the last few years.
A good solution would be to eliminate situations where companies can do what I mentioned above. Find them, fine them, punish them. It's surely not that difficult to enforce existing laws.
1:Harsha Bhogle's witty commentary - Gosh i miss this so much. Siddu seems to be more of a shayar compared to a commentator. Danny morrison is more about excitement rather than real cricket. I heard sanjay manjrekar commenting about mangoes for 10 mins in IPL rather than focussing on cricket as such. 2: Older scoreboard display : This year's scoreboard display on tv is really bad!!. It is like watching DeshDrohi after watching A Wednesday 3: Matches with Super over: I hope this happens pretty soon 4: Not to forget 2 teams: Rajastan Royals and Chennai super kings 5: Gayle storm: Hope it is the right time
One think more which not happening in this IPL that it the LUCK of DHONI.
I think they missed out key players (kp,faf, smith, mitchell marsh) due to injury. And they have a very bad bowling attack. You can realise their situation Where Player like Ashok Dinda/Ishant Sharma is a prime bowler and Tisara Parera is your star death bowler. I think Dhoni is missing a trick by not playing Irfan Pathan
They choked in last two overs. I didn't watch the match live but from the online score it looks like they messed up the 19th over Praveen Kumar. After 18th over I thought they have the match in their pocket.
In anyway Morris knock was definitely a special one.
Please do not post again if your message does not appear immediately: all of these were intercepted by the automated spam prevention system and sent to moderation for a real human being (or me, if I'm looking) to examine and approve or reject for publication. And as a result, all of them needed to be allowed through to prevent you getting kicked as a spammer, and that means I have to manually clear up the spares afterwards.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...
Also can they tell that their message got marked as spam? If not, they may just think it was a server error or a speed issue and would re-post. I certainly would try twice if a message I posted does not show up and I receive no indication that it's gone to a moderation queue.
Funnily I got the email notification when he replied to me, but I couldn't see his post. I would like to see the spam filter ignoring posts from anyone who has posted at least 25 non-spam messages here.
