Two days ago, I posted the article Programmatically Turning on the Screen Saver[^]

Now, I can't edit it. I can't see the Modify button.

By the way, I think that someone re-formatted it.

Is that the problem?
Does he/she preveted me from editing the article?

Please help me.

Hi Mohammad,

The reason for the difference you are seeing is because your article has been edited by a CP editor. How can you tell? First, the article's header (initially a light blue) changes to yellow/tan; second, if you look at the bottom line of the article page, you will see Editor: Deeksha Shenoy. This is the name of the CP editor who edited your article. You should have been sent an email when this happened.

What this all means is that you can no longer directly edit your article. Instead, you must zip up the download, new article html, and new images, and send them to submit at codeproject.com. Be sure to include the url of your article in the email text. For subject, say "Article update" or something like that. After you send the email, it will take a few days for the update to be processed, depending on how busy the editors are. If you want to check the status, send an email to the same address, asking where it is in the queue.

BTW, this forum is not really meant for problems with articles after they have been submitted, since the CP staff does not regularly check this forum. If you need help with an article already published, you should use the Site Bugs / Suggestions forum.

How does the article moderation process work?

Last night I added three articles (Genesis Hybrid Smart Client Framework part I[^], Genesis Hybrid Smart Client Framework part II[^] andGenesis Hybrid Smart Client Framework part III[^]).

Of these the first two were moderated and publically visible within minutes of posting the article. The third article however (Genesis Hybrid Smart Client Framework part III[^]) was posted 3:30AM GMT+2, it is now 10:40AM GMT+2 and it is still not visible.

I can see the Page View incrementing by one every now and again (what I can only assume is a moderator viewing the page) but the article stays in Pending state. This is really annoying and not what I expect from Code Project at all.

If something is wrong with the article that prevents the moderator from making the article public... why are they not informing me via e-mail or by adding a note to my article or something?

There is an Articles Needing Approval section that is visible to Gold Members, where we assess the standard of article and try to filter out the crap. Unfortunately for you, there are only 5 articles visible to view in this list - none of which is yours. This doesn't mean that your article isn't there - it just means that others have added articles after yours which need dealing with - it's a LIFO system.

What tends to happen is that there tends to be a period with the crap present because the voting process on articles isn't down to one person. Bad articles need a number of people to report the articles before a moderator removes it.

Now, I'm not saying that yours is a bad article - it's just fallen foul of other people posting after you. Please be patient, and we'll get round to it as soon as possible.

Thank you very very very very very much, its been 8 hours of agony to get my article out. Next time I'll be sure to post the article before I go to sleep instead of as I wake up (ok I'm lying if you check the article history you'll see i was updating like a banshee from 10PM yesterday till 3:30am today ... ie. no sleep for me)

however, i want to raise a concern with this site and everybody reading it... here i was typing my articles to share with the community, not sleeping like my mom says i must. Then because of your LIFO process and limited view of new articles... I caused myself tremendous stress thinking that you don't like my article! so I am hereby warning all users of Code Project NOT to become sleep deprived before you publish your work! I think I got another gray hair. Damn you Code Project!

Thanks again for getting my article through, now I wont stress so much when I do the next one in the series.

Article request (hope this is right forum?) - JSON/WCF and WCF Security

I have trouble finding a decent article to show me how to configure web.config (asp.net compat but there should be more) of a WCF Service to be called by asp.net page authenticating with "form-authentication", can't answer question like "Should I declare authentication=forms on my WCF service web.config as well" (it certainly can't be Windows because those are web clients)

I submitted an article (the 6th of March) which I want to edit. I have updated the source code and want to change some text in the article. However viewing my article, I cannot find the edit link anymore. I used to have the ability to change my article[^], am I missing something?

Dear friends of CodeProject staff,
I have a question about article competition and about prize assignments.
In march I published the DataGridView filter popup[^] article which received good responses from other CodeProject users.
The latest newsletter announces the winners of march. I agree with the choice of the Perceptor[^] article as best overall article, but I don't agree with the choice of the Multi Remote Desktop Client .NET[^] as the best c# article.
Of course I always appreciate who share something with others but I think that the proposed code is substantially a wapper around a preexisting activex control and that the article content is very laconic.
I am quite disappointed and I would know which are the rules applied in designing the "best" article. I just realized that the rating and popularity indicators don't matter. Nor it doesn't matter if the article proposes an original solution and if it contains a comprehensive explanation.

Considering that every competition provides its rules, I don't understand why you don't make public your rules.
Morever, I don't understand why you don't write the reasons that brought to award an article.

Well, I'm glad to see you're concerned about article quality, because otherwise I don't think you would have posted this. There are many good reasons why I post articles here, but the article competition isn't one of them. Reason? Because most of the people voting probably have not - and will never - use the article, and therefore haven't a clue about whether the article is useful or not.

Over time, you will get many good comments. Value these, and try to use even the bad comments to improve your articles; the serious members here will notice and appreciate them. I think you know by now that there are many immature members here - don't let these people color your experience. Write for yourself, because you like sharing; for the serious members, because they will appreciate it; and to improve your code, because you will get good comments.

The article competitions are CodeProject's version of beauty pageants; they are superficial and largely meaningless. Just ignore them - I do, and I don't vote in them either.

I hope you will continue to write the very best articles you can.

p.s. The CP admins don't read this forum regularly, so if you really want an answer, you should post in the Site Bugs / Suggestions forum.

thank you for your answer.
I share my code because I like to think I've done something useful to others and to learn from others.
Which is the measure of the usefulness? Feedbacks like comments, votes and, why not, prizes.
I think everyone is encouraged to do more and better when he or she receives positive feedbacks. The others appreciations is fundamental and a prize is a kind of formal appreciation about the done work.
That said, I'm surprised to read that a serious site like CodeProject adopt superficial and meaningless beauty pageants. Why? Which is the purpose?
I would like one of this three things will be done:
- Competition will be removed at all
- Competition will become serious, with public rules and prize reasons.
- Competition will be explicitelly declared as a facetious roulette game.

I will follow your suggestion, posting my doubts in the Site Bugs / Suggestions forum.

Try to look past the superficial. Take the long view; in the end, the serious members will give your articles the votes they deserve. You will only make yourself unhappy to expect anything else.
