I have prepared a software in .net. Kindly suggest and help me by eplaining the method to secure my software through usb using pendrive from illeagal copying and distribution.

you could request the SDK from these guys http://www.esecutech.com/[^] and experiment with it - typically you bind part of their library into your app and use that to check if the dongle is there, read codes etc from the dongle
(I beleive they also have paid advertising on this site, so wait till the add comes around and click on it)

Thanks for replying.
Plz note and try to understand. Suppose any software prepaired by us and I distribute to any one telling him for not to give any other person for use.
How can I protect our software from unauthorised use and copying by any other person before giving to any one by using USB pen drive (Like DONGAL).

I work for small company where some of our network/IT tasks are handled by third party IT consulting firm. We have Exchange Server handling out mail. Previously we had GFI MailEssentials installed to handle spams. It is my understanding it has stood to its claims.
Just this past weekend, we came to know our license has expired and it is time to renew. The IT consulting team is suggesting we move to hardware based antispam tool from Barracuda. We don't think this is necessary and don't want to use hardware based solution for this task.
So, the questions are
1. What do you recommend for Exchange Server antispam tool?
2. Do you see any value in having hardware based solution?

BTW - Why not to use Barracuda's solution. Exchange is Microsoft, Microsoft if main victim of viruses, Windows is a spam-networks breeder.
I'd prefer to use something not from M$! Google's mail is also good and protected from spam perfectly.

Well, there are a number of problems. To begin with, why run additional hardware when it can be equally handled by software. I can see a point having hardware firewall, but not spam filter.

I have full control as to my personal stuff, but when we work for company, at times, our options are limited. I use gmail as my primary email address, but when it comes to work, I got to go with what ever they provided. I can certainly voice my opinion, but at the end of the day, I have to use what ever is decided by the company. Good or bad, I have either to use it or leave the place.

No question gmail rocks, but the nuymber of spam caught by the spam filter are grown day by day. I have seem few spams that made it to my inbox.

Working for company involves tons of bureaucracy and sluggish minds. I met with such kind of situations many times so I perfectly understands you.
However - companies sometimes could afford themselves to be sluggish but once they feel bad (which is often seen nowadays) they turning their faces to developers opinions.

I recently got a Netbook with a 16gb solid state drive. It came with WinXP and as space on the drive is a minimum, I want to remove some of the Microsoft "fluff" that I would not use:
Microsoft Synchronize (Start->Programs->Accessories->Synchronize)<br />
Windows Live Messanger<br />
Movie Maker<br />
Windows Live (a suite of things I could care less about)<br />
Games (will never play)<br />
Windows Media Player (will use QuickTime for mostly MP4 and audio files)<br />
Tour Windows XP (can this be removed?)<br />
I have been researching a lot of these, but am really stuck on "Microsoft Synchronize".
Also, if there is a better way to go about getting a very small WinXP footprint, I'm open to advisement.

Windows media player might be good to keep, but the tour you can remove (IIRC). And the windows help files can be removed too. Maybe you should try out nLite?

Actually by using non MS software - you'll end up with same amount of free space.
Why not use this main SSD for System + additional software and generic 8GB/16GB/32GB USB stick for data?
This could be the case.
I have very old Dell Latitude C600 (PIII 1GHz + 256MB RAM) as browsing and book reading device for my wife - and she use network or USB stick to put additional data (even on USB 1.1).

for the most part, i plan on going the route of your suggestion - additional apps, storage on removeable sticks/cards. I want to test if ok to run Google Earth from removeable card + save its image cache on the same card.
I also watch/download videos and curious if saving/writing to same card will pose a problem in playback of videos (MP4s, avg 4-6mb).
Only can try and see what happens.
My system specs:
ASUS 1gb RAM,16gb SSD running WinXP
900mhz celeron
refribished system running great

You're going to have to explain what you mean by "whenever an incorrect password is entered on my computer". There is no global event that fires every time a bad password is entered in any login window.

I think he means: If someone enters the wrong password trying to log into my Windows installation.
That kind of stuff would be handled by the GINA, right? So, he got to write a GINA.dll replacement, if I am not mistaken.
I think he might have watched Jurassic Park in school...

Dave,
For example whenever I enter an incorrect password on my computer at login the following message appears "The supplied credentials were invalid. Please try again or contact your system administrator for help". How can I change this? I would want say a picture of me to pop up and say wrong password or some other form of animation of my choosing. Is this possible?

Sure. You just have to write a completely new GINA for XP and below. For Vista and above, this means writing a new Credential Provider. Either of which you can only write in Visual C++, or equivilent.

Well, you could use something like reshacker to modify GINA, msgina.dll. You can't put an image in the incorrect password message as it is created by MessageBox(), but you could edit the text for incorrect password... Also you can modify the windows XP banner above login fields, but not sure if thats the same DLL, or another one...

You should look up the MSI file structure on the web. MSI is nothing but a "package" for the Windows installer. I've seen a freeware called "MSI Creator" which supposedly can create MSI packages.

It's impossible to convert an .EXE to an .MSI. An .MSI can be written to install an .EXE, and many other things. An .MSI is nothing but a database file used by Windows Installer, complete with various tables, records, keys, blob streams, ...

You shoujld be replying the the original poster, not me.
And InnoSetup will not "convert" an .EXE into an .MSI. It will package the .EXE so the .EXE can be installed, but it will not convert a, say, Setup.EXE based setup to an .MSI for you.
