Given its prevalence, open source code is virtually impossible to avoid, but the proper steps need to be taken address its vulnerabilities. Somebody should create an open source tool for that

The teaser tries to imply that open source is more of a risk. Read on, and you'll find more of these suggestions: "Avoiding open source completely is not an option".
I'd like to point out the obvious; one can only check if the source is available, meaning that these vulnerabilities in propriertary software will go unnoticed. And though it may not be an option to avoid open source, it is an option to avoid proprietary software.

The idea of this post is born talking with my colleague Antonio about the frameworks a .NET web developer should know (from my point of view of course). That's funny because the list is very long and I asked myself if there is something wrong with my idea of .NET web developer or something else. Unlikely many of these are really "Must Know", but what do I know? (Your mileage will vary)
